so, after months and months of thinking of the perfect name… your baby is finally here… what do you actually call your baby the most? is it a short form or nickname of s/hes real name?? ([name]Fin[/name] for [name]Finley[/name], [name]Kate[/name] for [name]Kaitlyn[/name], [name]Maddy[/name] for [name]Madison[/name]…) or a pet name? ([name]Buddy[/name], [name]Little[/name] Monster, little man, sweetie, etc…) or do you, without fail, use your babies real name??? and how many of you call your baby mostyl by its first and middle names?? ([name]Anne[/name] [name]Marie[/name], [name]Ariana[/name] [name]Rose[/name], etc…)
my DS’s name is beckett reed. we planned on calling him beck. maybe he will grow into that nn eventually (he is only 2 right now). for now i call him bee or bug, my DH calls him buddy when we are at home. when we are out and not quite so informal we always call him beckett.
Haha, this is going to be a funny thread!
His name is [name]Dashiell[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Rowe[/name] B__. We call him [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Dashiell[/name] most of the time, I wanted to call him [name]Derby[/name] or [name]Darby[/name] because that’s how I’d pronounce his initials, but it didn’t stick. I call him [name]Dasha[/name] and Dashie almost as much as [name]Dash[/name] or [name]Dashiell[/name]. My husband calls him [name]Buddy[/name] quite a lot. At Xmas time we call him Dasher.
So he has all those names… but what do I call him MOST? Dude. Which has evolved to Doodle. and Doodle Bug, Doodle Boodle and Doodle Poodle. But yeah, more than anything I call him Dude… and he’s only 15 months old. When he’s falling asleep I call him [name]Little[/name] Heart and [name]Baby[/name] [name]Love[/name].
My son, [name]Micah[/name], will turn 2 in [name]August[/name] and he has a multitude of nns that we use. My stepson who is 6 calls [name]Micah[/name]: [name]Mike[/name], Brother, and Dude. My husband likes: [name]Buddy[/name], [name]Son[/name], [name]Sonny[/name], [name]Micah[/name]-son (very Karate Kid, no?), Dude (probably where [name]Bryce[/name] gets it from) and Squirt. I usually use [name]Little[/name] [name]Man[/name] and [name]Son[/name], when I’m not actually using his fn.
My best friend nicknamed her son “Bobble head” when he was a baby. She still calls him that sometimes and he’s 4 now. lol
My boyfriend nicknamed our babies Thing 1 and Thing 2 when we first found out we were having twins. I’m thinking about making the nursery Dr. Suess themed… =)
Our little [name]Noah[/name] gets called a multitude of nicknames, most of which are not related to his real name: No-No, [name]Noah[/name] Bug, [name]Little[/name] Monkey, Tooter (that started when he was a newborn and made such loud boy noises already!), Boo Boo, [name]Bubba[/name], and then occassionally we call him by his full name (mostly when we are being serious and are telling him “No! [name]Don[/name]'t touch!”) [name]Noah[/name] [name]David[/name].
Funny thread!! [name]Caitlin[/name] is our [name]Caity[/name]-Bug (play on lady bug) for the most part. Also just “The Bug” or “The Girl”. Those and [name]Caitlin[/name] are used in public and with family. My [name]MIL[/name] calls her Bugsy (I kind of secretly loath this). A few of the others used only at home are B-Heart/[name]Baby[/name]-Heart, A B-So/B-So [name]Chan[/name] (lawl…long story), [name]Lil[/name]'Sweet, and Fuss Head. >.<
My son [name]August[/name], gets called [name]Gus[/name] mostly but me and his little sister frequently call him “[name]Gussie[/name]”
My daughter [name]Georgia[/name] usually gets shortened to “[name]George[/name]” at home but also gets called “[name]Missy[/name]” by her dad a lot and occassionally me, I think this started as [name]Little[/name] Miss [name]Georgia[/name] then [name]Little[/name] Miss and eventually “[name]Missy[/name]”
[name]Zoe[/name] gets called [name]Zoe[/name], [name]Zo[/name] [name]Zo[/name] Bean, [name]Princess[/name] [name]Baby[/name] (she loves that book), [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Belle[/name], [name]Zoe[/name] [name]Juniper[/name] (singsong voice or when she’s in trouble), [name]Jo[/name] [name]Jo[/name], and Hobo. She can’t say [name]Zoe[/name] yet and calls herself “[name]Day[/name]”, short for “daydee”, her word for baby.
We called our son, [name]Kyle[/name], “[name]Tiger[/name]” because he was such a big, LOUD baby! And our daughter, [name]Emily[/name], was nicknamed “Squeaky” because she barely made a sound when she cried. Luckily, they are now called by their given names!
I don’t have a child, but I do know that my mom NEVER calls me my actual name. When I hear her say [name]Lily[/name], I think something’s wrong. I’m always Sweet Pea, [name]Sugar[/name], [name]Honey[/name], Schnookila?? (Which is often shortened to Schnookie) and Lilhammer (like the town in Norway).
Same here! Last summer, when we were moving home from college, my dad called me [name]Lauren[/name] and I almost didn’t respond! He exclusively calls me [name]Birdie[/name], so it was a bit odd…

Although I don’t really have a baby, I consider my cat my baby, so I’ll use her.
Her fullname is Miss [name]Trixie[/name], but we call her [name]Trixie[/name] a majority of the time along with: [name]Trix[/name], T T La, T-[name]Rex[/name], Tree Frog, Meow Meow, which evolved into Meowsers and Moo Moo (sometimes followed by [name]Kitty[/name]), [name]Little[/name] Miss [name]Trixie[/name], Sweetie, and [name]Trixie[/name] [name]Trey[/name].
My brother also calls her Chubs because she’s kind of fat. So I started to call her Slim because she’s losing weight.
These are what we call my cat… You can’t even imagine the amount of nicknames I have. My family is full of crazy nickname-giving people.
Apparently, I am a nicknamey type person. I just realized this recently. I rarely ever call my kids by their birth names. Usually only when they are in trouble. My 7 yo son [name]Maximos[/name] ([name]Max[/name]) [name]Alexander[/name] is usually [name]Babe[/name] or [name]Buddy[/name] and My 2 yo daughter [name]Iris[/name] [name]Leia[/name] [name]Ann[/name] is exclusively Pumpkin. In fact, if you ask her what her name is, and she’s in a good mood, she’ll tell you it’s Pumpkin [name]Iris[/name]! But she does know her name is [name]Iris[/name] and not Pumpkin, thankfully…
[name]Gus[/name] or [name]Gussie[/name] and [name]Toby[/name] ([name]Augustus[/name] and [name]Tobias[/name]).
I’m looking for a name for #3 (which may be a boy or girl - but I’m preparing for boy!)
Would like a similarly slightly unusual name with a cute but not strange nickname.
my son [name]Peter[/name] - nicknames
baby - [name]Baba[/name], Goggy, Ba
boy - [name]Buddy[/name], Brother (mostly [name]Buddy[/name])
teenager - Petie [name]Kitty[/name]
young adult - Petie [name]Kitty[/name], [name]Kitty[/name]
my son [name]Laura[/name]
baby - [name]Yitty[/name], Tutu
girl - Voovie, Voova, [name]Lula[/name], Voovoo, Miss Voo, Loolie
teenager - Vavoova, Vavoo, Voovetta, I still call her Voovie, Voovoo, Voova, Miss Voo, [name]Lula[/name], and Loolie
I have three children, [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Isaac[/name]. Mostly we just call them their real names. Sometimes [name]Edward[/name] is [name]Eddie[/name] (mostly by friends) and [name]Adelaide[/name] is sometimes [name]Addie[/name]. We also call them pumpin, honey, monster man, cupcake…
We use mostly pet names (Sweetie, [name]Honey[/name], [name]Buddy[/name], etc.), but otherwise I only use his full first name (I’m not a nickname person). Of course if he’s in trouble then I use his first and middle name together!
My son [name]Chester[/name] gets called [name]Chester[/name] and [name]Chet[/name], but he also gets called lots of nicknames by us, such as
Chetti [name]Bear[/name] (or just [name]Bear[/name])
Chetti Spaghetti (or Chetti Spaghettios or just Spaghettios)
Mr. [name]Chester[/name]
My daughter [name]Cassandra[/name] gets called [name]Cassandra[/name] and [name]Cassie[/name], and also
Ladybug
[name]Cass[/name] [name]Cass[/name]
Cassers
Ms. [name]Cassandra[/name] [name]Janeen[/name]
And they get called things like [name]Honey[/name] and Pumpkin a lot, too. They’re only 16 months old, so some of these nicknames may not get used when they’re a little older (at least, not in front of people!).
Gosh, I don’t think we actually call any of our girlies by their full name, unless when speaking about them or in a formal situation
[name]Madeleine[/name]- [name]Maddie[/name]- Mittens
[name]Isabella[/name]- [name]Bella[/name], [name]Bella[/name], [name]Belle[/name]- [name]Bella[/name] Bug
[name]Olivia[/name]- Livi, [name]Vivi[/name]- Livi [name]Love[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]- [name]Flossie[/name]- [name]Lola[/name] ([name]Long[/name] story!)
[name]Clementine[/name]- [name]Emme[/name], [name]Mimi[/name]- [name]Mimi[/name] Monster
[name]Imogen[/name]- [name]Immy[/name]- [name]Baby[/name] Ballerina
And between all of them, they are princess, my sunshine, sweetie, sweetie pie, sweetheart, darling, baby, honey, honey bunny etc etc etc
[name]Gracie[/name]
