What do you call your grandmother/grandfather?

Well my paternal grandparents are Granny and Opa, and always have been. I don’t know how or why they chose that though.
My Mother’s parents divorced and remarried before I was born. My Mom’s Mother and her husband were always Grandma and Grandpa [name]Jack[/name]. And my Mom’s Dad and his wife are my Granddad and [name]Nana[/name]. It’s a lot easier with that many grandparents if they all have their own ‘name’. If they were all just ‘Grandma and Grandpa’, I think it would have been a lot more confusing as a child

I call one set, Grandma and Grandpa, and the other set, [name]Nana[/name] and Papa.

I have Grandmommy and Granddad, and [name]Dee[/name] and Granddaddy

[name]Dee[/name]'s name is [name]Judy[/name], so I think that’s where she got it from. Her mother went by Dearie, so it may also be a tribute to that. My mom’s name is [name]Lauren[/name]; she jokes that she wants her grandma name to be [name]Lolly[/name], and my dad can be Pop  But maybe she can be La, that would be cute.

I’ve always called my maternal grandmother “grandma” and my maternal grandfather was “granddaddy” My paternal grandparents were grandma amick and granddaddy amick (i never knew my Paternal grandfather, he passed away before i was born, my paternal grandmother passed when i was about 10 and my maternal grandfather passed in [name]July[/name] of 2004)

My brother and I have always called both sets of grandparents by the same things, “Grandma” and “Pap”. Except when we were little, we often called our paternal grandfather “Pap Pap”. My younger half-brother also calls our maternal grandparents “Grandma” and “Pap”. His paternal grandparents died long before he was born, so I have no clue what he would have called them.

Paternal: Grandmum
Maternal: Grandma and Grandad

My husbands are: (I listed grandmas first then grandpas)
Paternal: Bobcia and Dziadek
Maternal: [name]Baba[/name] and [name]Gigi[/name]

I regularly call my students Miss/Mister first name… I also use common “pet” names like [name]Honey[/name], Sweetie, [name]Doll[/name], [name]Sunshine[/name]…

What do you call your students?

Mine were Memaw and Pawpaw  My son calls my parents [name]Nana[/name] and Paw, and calls my in-laws [name]Ninnie[/name] (which I hate cause my dad always has called boobs ninnies!) and Pop Daddy.

I call my maternal grandparents [name]Mimi[/name] and Papa. They were quite young to be grandparents when I was born, so they were at a total loss about what they wanted me to call them because they thought the usual names (Grandma/Grandpa, [name]Nan[/name]/Pop) were old sounding. I christened them myself when I was about one and a half years old. They love their names and even my friends and my boyfriend call them [name]Mimi[/name] and Papa!

Also, everyone in my family called my late great-grandmother Bam. I am not sure how that came about, but even her children called her that when the grandkids made it up

My maternal grandparents were the plain and simple Mom and Pop. My paternal grandmother was Granny. My grandfather died when my dad was in high school, but when we talk about him, I generally say Pop [name]Clay[/name] (his mn that he went by). I also was fortunate enough to grow up with a great-grandmother whom I called Momon. It’s pronounced “MawMaw”.

My parents are now grandparents to my brother’s children, and they go by [name]Mimi[/name] and Papa.

My mother’s grandparents were Momit and Popit.

My boyfriend calls his grandmother MeMaw.

My friend’s mother is CiCi to her granddaughter. C.C. are her initials. Another friend is [name]GiGi[/name] to her granddaughter. Her last name starts with a G.

The most unique “grandmother” name I’ve ever heard is [name]Honey[/name]! I actually know two Honeys!

Before my paternal grandmother died we called our grandmothers Grammy M and Grammy B. Now we just have Grammy.

My grandfathers are Grampy and Papa pn puh puh.

I really want my future children to call my parents Grams & Gramps and my husband’s parents Meme & Papa (that’s what the other grandkids call them). Is it easy to make your children call them what you want?

I personally called my maternal grandparents Granma and Granda. My paternal grandparents were [name]Oma[/name] and Opa which is [name]German[/name] for Grandma/Grandpa.
My husband called his maternal grandparents [name]Nana[/name] and Papa and paternal grandparents Memere and Pepere (french for grandma and grandpa)

My children call my parents Gramma and Granda and my husbands parents [name]Nana[/name] and Papa.
They also call my husbands grandmother g-g-ma (gigima) which she loves!

My paternal grandparents both died before I was born, so I never really called them anything. But I called my maternal grandparents Yiayia and Papou, the Greek names for grandma and grandpa.
Funny story–when my sister was really young, she called me “Yi-yoo” (which sounds nothing like my real name). I think she was mistaking me for our grandma, for some reason! Anyway, the nickname “Yiayoo” really stuck among my family members and my mom still calls me that from time to time.
I always thought I was weird as a kid because I didn’t call my grandparents “Grandma” and “Grandpa”. In school I would actually censor myself and refer to them as Grandma and Grandpa. So it’s very cool to realize that there are plenty of other names for grandparents in the world!

I think mine take the cake- Boppy and Bajai (bu-jhai)! Mom’s parents, father and mother respectively.
My dad’s mother lives in Nepal, his country of origin, so we don’t get to see her very often, but she goes by Bhabi (bah-bee) to the whole family.

Boppy was a nn one of his daughters gave him, and he declared that that’s what his ‘grandparent’ name would be, 20 years or so ahead of time! And Bajai means ‘grandmother on your mother’s side’ in Nepali. So they’re always been Boppy and Bajai. We may get strange looks, but hey. So worth it.

My late paternal grandmother’s name was [name]Nana[/name]. My oldest cousin started calling her that when she was little, and it stuck.

Unforunately, both of my grandfathers passed away before
I was born and I have never, and will never, meet the woman who raised my mom. So I technically have no alive grandparents remaining.

But my parents and I always joke that when I have kids, not for a long time though, that they will be called MeeMaw and PeePaw. It’s kind of a running joke for us.

My maternal grandparents are [name]Nan[/name] and Grandad

My paternal grandparents are:

[name]Nana[/name] [name]Maguire[/name] (her surname) if talking to others and just [name]Nana[/name] when talking to her.

and

Grandad Wellie (His surname is [name]Wellington[/name]) although I haven’t seen him in years.

My husband calls his grandparents Grandma and Grandad.

I called all my grandparents grandma and grandpa. but when my baby comes i want them to have some thing different like nana and pop-pop or mamaw and papaw or something else.

My maternal grandparents are [name]Nana[/name] and Grandfather. My paternal grandparents are Meme and Grandpa.

My son calls my parents Yaya and Papa (they were both in their early 40’s when he was born and neither wanted to be Grandma/Grandpa).

I only ever knew one of my grandparents- the others all passed away before I was born- but my grandfather was always Grandpa to me.
