What do you guys think of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]?
One of my newest name crushes. I think it feels pretty, feminine and strong. I also like that it doesn’t tend to get shortened, which is something I love in a name. I also love the meanings, maiden & innocent.
I’ve read that this has a distinctly British/Australian feel, and isn’t generally used in [name_u]America[/name_u], which is fine by my because I’m not American
What do you guys think?
I like Imogen! Randomly it makes me think of mountain goats which is a good thing
Imogen: overall dresses, singing in the rain, picking sunflowers, peanut butter cookies, wearing rain boots even when it’s sunny, & daisy chains
It’s lovely chic and smart but not without character. I really like that it’s unmistakeably feminine yet completely unfrilly / unprincessy.
It’s certainly more popular in the UK compared to the states. I think it feels at home in any of the countries you listed! [name_f]Vintage[/name_f], clunky, and cozy names are chic and beautiful. I love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
It’s feminine but strong. Fits any age, any personality, and has the three things I love in a name. Starts with an I, Has a -J sound, and doesn’t end with A.
I think of a girl with long brown braids riding a bike in the countryside.

Thank you! I love those vibes by the way!
Thank you! It feels smart, with character, but also pretty and feminine which I love
Thank you! I don’t live in [name_u]America[/name_u] so the USA popularity doesn’t affect me much, but it’s a beautiful name. Gives me similar vibes to [name_f]Gillian[/name_f]!
Thank you Izzi! I also like names that start with I, they’re really pretty
Also thanks for the imagery!
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is lovely - strong but sweet, literary and lovely. It has a distinct sound too, and I’ve known a really lovely [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] which helps sell the name to me
I love it because [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] / [name_f]Innogen[/name_f] is a seriously underrated Shakespearean heroine! A medieval princess who marries her love in secret then disguises herself as a boy to escape her wicked stepmother and prove her fidelity! Honestly [name_m]Cymbeline[/name_m] is a wonderful play.
I slightly prefer the old [name_f]English[/name_f] spelling with -nn because I am an insufferable [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] nut and here in the U.K. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is rather overdone (it’s in the top 50). It also does have nicknames here - [name_f]Immy[/name_f] usually, but [name_f]Mim[/name_f] and [name_f]Midge[/name_f] spring to mind - but tbh Brits will nickname anything and it can certainly stand alone without one if you don’t like them.
When I think of [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] I see a girl in school uniform (the old fashioned kind with a plaid skirt) with neat hair and brogue shoes, a daydreamer, library books and sheet music spread across her bed. It’s an approachable name but the un-frilly ending gives it strength too.
Thank you! I love those associations too
I love that it’s a Shakespearean name too! I also love the story of how [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] came about - how Shakespeare’s printer misspelt [name_f]Innogen[/name_f], misinterpreting the double n as an m, and then a whole new name was born!
I’ve never seen any nicknames used for [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] in my country, which is literally obsessed with nicknames, so that’s a huge selling point.
[name_f]Immi[/name_f] and [name_f]Mim[/name_f] don’t seem intuitive to the point where people would exclusively call you that, which is good.
I love the strong and feminine feeling that the name gives off! And that imagery that you’ve mentioned definitely solidifies my impression of the name. Thank you!
ohhh I adore [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], so sweet yet strong!! feels vintage but not dated and very cozy an image of a blonde girl with rosy cheeks and big hazel eyes immediately comes to mind!!
Thank you so much!
I’m quite fascinated by the lovely name [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]!
It has such a completely unique sound; unlike many other girls’ names, it doesn’t rhyme with or have the same “format” as any other name, which lends it a delightfully fresh & surprising quality.
(Trivia: there’s a character in the show Carnival [name_f]Row[/name_f] with the poetic name “Imogen Spurnrose”.)
I agree! It surprised me too, there aren’t other names that it sounds like and it feels very different to a lot of the names you see today, yet still being familiar. I think [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is a beautiful name!
Also [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] Spurnrose is lovely
I love it! So does my sister, who’s reading over my shoulder rn.

I like the name! However, I will say it took me YEARS to know how to pronounce it. As a child (in the US, never met a real person with this name) I read books with a character named [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and I always thought it was pronounced Im-o-gen, gen as in generation. Now that I actually know how to say it two decades later I quite like it!
