What do you guys think of the name Helen?

I’m searching for a middle name for myself and don’t want anything that starts or ends with the letter A because my first name will be [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] parents suggested [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. What do you think of this name? Is it giving positive vibes? Are there any celebrities named [name_f]Helen[/name_f]?

Thank you

i didn’t used to like it…it felt middle aged womany but I feel like Helen/Helena have really grown on me…particularly with nickname options like [name_f]Nell[/name_f] and [name_f]Lena[/name_f] and great namesakes to be had.

For a middle I think it’s fine

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] sounds so graceful!

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] sounds lively and bouncy, and I think [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is down to earth, kind of grounding in an elegant sort of way. It’s a lovely balance.

The only celebrity I can think of is [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_m]Hunt[/name_m], the actress from the movies Cast Away and Twister. Good movies, imo!

I really like Helen. It’s seen as a bit of a staid Boomer name but I find it tailored and elegant (and I have background Helen of Troy associations). I don’t however adore it after Sophia - its not the nicest transition imo, and I think Helen loses some of her sparkle (not visually, visually it’s lovely, I mean in actually saying it/aurally).

I think Sophia Helene (Hu-LENNE) would be better, obviously depending on your last name. Does Sophia Helen run nicely to your last name?

Thank you! 🩷 Helene is nice too but I like Helen more. In my country Helena is really popular too but I definitely don’t want a name that ends in A.

My surname is just a standard one like Brown. I think it’s okay with any name.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] is incredibly elegant to me! [name_f]My[/name_f] only association is a beautiful girl named [name_f]Helen[/name_f] I used to know who is really good at dance and ballet :ribbon:

The only problem I see with [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is the not so nice "He :ice_hockey: :ice_hockey: " syllable

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is lovely! Other suggestions:

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Ruby[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_m]Ryan[/name_m]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_m]Pearl[/name_m]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f]

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] is beautiful! I prefer [name_f]Helena[/name_f] myself, [name_f]Helen[/name_f] does feel a little old lady to me still, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is timeless and classic… it almost feels like glamorous old Hollywood to me? I don’t pay a ton of attention to celebrities anymore but there is [name_f]Helen[/name_f] Mirren…

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] feels solid and sensible but friendly too, and with [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] it feels classic and cohesive, with plenty of elegance.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Mirren[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f] McCrory, and [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_m]George[/name_m] were celebs I thought of, but I had to think about it and my mind didn’t immediately go, [name_f]Helen[/name_f], like [celeb] or anything. The first [name_f]Helen[/name_f] I thought of was a fictional character, but it’s not an overpowering association.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] is alright. I view it as a kind of vintage name and a kind of outdated name. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] pairs pretty well together, but I feel like there could be a more exciting option out there!

I love [name_f]Helen[/name_f]! It was my great grandmothers name and it’s recently grown on me. I see it as a vintage choice that is due for a comeback! It feel similar to other vintage or traditional names from the early 20th century such as [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] etc.

[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is stunning! Very sophisticated and fashionably classic!

[name_f]My[/name_f] gorgeous sister is [name_f]Helen[/name_f]!

So my lovely sister is [name_f]Helen[/name_f] she’s fun, bubbly, a brilliant auntie, intelligent and a free spirit constantly travelling the world. She’s great. Therefore I really like [name_f]Helen[/name_f] as I have such positive associations.

The name itself never used to appeal (my sister is actually a bit iffy with her name) but now I do appreciate the classic, tailored feel of the name along with positive historical references.

I love the name [name_f]Helen[/name_f]! We are using it as a middle name for our daughter coming soon, to honor my great grandmother. It’s elegant and vintage :old_key:

Helen is a great name! It’s a bit dated, but so elegant! And in the middle name spot it’s not a problem at all. I love the French form, Helene, even more!
Whenever I hear Helen, I think of my middle name, Helene, Helen Alderson from the TV show All Creatures Great and Small, and also St. Helena!
