What do you make of these names? šŸ¤”

Hi y’all

I don’t wanna influence the opinions or suggestions, but I do want to ask for your thoughts on these names (either individually or as a group) and any name suggestions you may have:

Emiliana

Everest (pronounced like ever east)

Genesis (pronounced with an h)

Gretchen

Helen

Ismael

Kundra

Orquidea (or-KEY-day-ah)

SakinƩ (sah-KEY-neigh)

These are my spouses suggestions the only one I like they now say we can’t use :joy: we do have other names we agree on  we are latine, thus the ā€œweirdā€ pronunciations

[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] - it’s a lot of name, but pretty and usable and has lots of nickname possibilities (I’d be prepared for it to be shortened).

[name_u]Everest[/name_u] - I’m not sure you could get the desired pronunciation to stick I’ve only ever heard it as ever-est. It’s a fun name.

[name_u]Genesis[/name_u] - again, not sure about your desired pronunciation.

[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] - one of my long-time favourites. I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea thanks to the hard sounds, but it’s distinctive and lively.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] - another favourite. I like how no-nonsense it is, but still a bit of fun.

[name_m]Ismael[/name_m] - not a name I would use, but totally fine.

Kundra - Id assume a typo for [name_f]Kendra[/name_f] or tundra, to be honest.

[name_f]Orquidea[/name_f] - I’ve never heard this before, but it’s intriguing.

SakinĆ© - again, haven’t heard this before. The sound is quite pretty.

[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] - this has flair and elegance, but familiarity too

[name_u]Everest[/name_u] - I like the vibe and the naturey feel but I’m not sure on the -east ending - possibly because I’m not used to it?

[name_u]Genesis[/name_u] - it’s okay, I don’t love or hate it

[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] - I go between thinking ā€˜it’s kind of cool and distinctive’ and ā€˜it reminds me of retching and the Grinch’ :person_shrugging:

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] - a solid, classic name with a soft but strong sound

[name_m]Ismael[/name_m] - it feels distinctive and cool - plus nn [name_u]Issy[/name_u] or [name_u]Isa[/name_u] are cool

Kundra - I’ve only ever encountered this as an [name_f]Indian[/name_f] surname - it has an appealing sound

[name_f]Orquidea[/name_f] - it has a cool meaning and very distinctive sound - I think it would work best in a place where there are enough Spanish speakers? Maybe it could grow on me but I need to mull it over

Sakine - intriguing but not sure

[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u]! I’m generally not fond of frilly names, but [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f] feels elegant yet down to earth. Lots of lovely nicknames too!

[name_u]Everest[/name_u] - I like it, but not with that pronunciation. It just sort of sounds ā€œwrongā€, especially since there’s really no other big association, just the mountain.

[name_u]Genesis[/name_u] - Not for me, since it’s literally just the Greek word for ā€œbirthā€ And in general too in-your-face religious for my tastes.

[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] - Sweet and retro! I like [name_f]Greta[/name_f] a bit more, but [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f] is lovely.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f] - A solid classic! I don’t have any strong feelings on it, it’s just fine, although I adooore the possibility for nn [name_f]Leni[/name_f].

[name_m]Ismael[/name_m] - I prefer the [name_m]Ishmael[/name_m] spelling (I feel like it’s more familiar + it looks less like ā€œis maleā€) but I’m a fan of it! I feel like it’s an underused name. I like its gentle sound and -el ending!

Kundra - A bit too tundra for me, I think, and it has a bit of a dated vibe because of names like [name_f]Sandra[/name_f].

[name_f]Orquidea[/name_f] - Hmm, I’m a bit conflicted! I do love the nicknames (Ori and [name_f]Dea[/name_f] are so fun!) but I’m not sure I like how it sounds? It’s kinda giving fantasy novel name, which isn’t my style. I don’t know where you live, but if it’s somewhere English-speaking you might struggle to get the correct pronunciation, which is a big drawback to me, but if that’s not an issue in your country then I don’t think it’s a bad choice!

SakinĆ© - I don’t have anything elaborate to say, to be honest I just don’t really like how it sounds, sorry!

[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]: Probably one of my favorites from the [name_f]Em[/name_f]- family; freshens it up and is right on trend being vowel-heavy with a slightly dramatic flair

[name_u]Everest[/name_u]: It just feels a bit ā€œwrongā€ to say ever-east since that’s not how the word is said in [name_f]English[/name_f], but if it works for you then that’s good. You may like the [name_u]French[/name_u] name [name_m]Evariste[/name_m]?

[name_u]Genesis[/name_u]: I see the appeal for other people! I’m neither here nor there on it.

[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]: I like it, but I do see why others don’t. I don’t think it sounds too harsh and I don’t hear ā€œretchā€ as much. I do like [name_m]German[/name_m] names, though.

[name_f]Helen[/name_f]: A bit old-fashioned and not in a vintage renaissance (Violet, [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], etc) kind of way for me. She’ll probably have her turn in the next 20 years, though.

[name_m]Ismael[/name_m]: Cool. Reminds me of [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m], [name_u]Israel[/name_u] - they all have cool ā€œlooksā€ to me (maybe the unexpected vowel pairings in the middle?) Reminds me of the philosophy books.

Kundra: Looks like a mashup of [name_f]Kendra[/name_f] and [name_f]Tundra[/name_f].

[name_f]Orquidea[/name_f]: O names aren’t my favorite (I’m more of a kiki than a bouba person, if you know what that is LOL) and this one sounds a little antiquated, although I don’t know how it’s perceived in its native language.

Sakine: Sleek and cool, although I think it looks somewhat incomplete somehow? But I can’t quite put my finger on it.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts-

Emiliana-I don’t know. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is lovely & I really adore [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] & [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]. [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f], however, feels too smoosh-y.

[name_u]Everest[/name_u] (pronounced like ever east)-I think it’s interesting & it gives me really cool nature vibes. But it’s maybe too masculine & maybe feels a bit too much for a given first name.

[name_u]Genesis[/name_u] (pronounced with an h)-This is another one that feels too masculine for a girl but too feminine for a boy. And also like [name_u]Everest[/name_u], it almost feels too epic.

Gretchen-I like it in theory. I don’t love the sound as much as I wish that I did, but I like that it’s vintage & unique & feminine without being frilly. And, you could use the nn [name_f]Gerty[/name_f]! Which I love!

Helen-I feel the same way here as I do about [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]. And [name_f]Helen[/name_f] also has adorable nn…Nellie!

Ismael-It does sound pretty, but I think it’s more masculine.

Kundra-I don’t really like the way that this one looks or sounds.

[name_f]Orquidea[/name_f] (or-KEY-day-ah)-That’s just too much.

SakinĆ© (sah-KEY-neigh)-It’s almost pretty, but reminds me a lot of sake the wine.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I like [name_f]Helen[/name_f] a lot. I find [name_f]Helena[/name_f] quiet bland in fact and I don’t like [name_f]Helene[/name_f] so much compared to [name_f]Helen[/name_f]. [name_f]Helen[/name_f] feels simple yet elegant, but very strong - like [name_f]Frida[/name_f] or similar names.

[name_m]Ismael[/name_m] is a nice boy name. I like the gentle sound. Feels more [name_u]French[/name_u] than everything for me though.

I prefer [name_f]Greta[/name_f] to [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] to [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f].
