What do you nickname your kids?

I think family nicknames are adorable and since having [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] we have some really cute nickname for her.

We call her [name_f]Tibby[/name_f], Tibs and [name_f]Tabby[/name_f] based on her name but we also call her Dandelion or Dandy because my husband thinks she looks like a dandelion clock because of her fuzzy white blond hair which has really stuck.

So what do you call your little ones?

Dandelion is so cute! We’re horrible with nicknames - I love them. I’m surprised my daughter ever learned her real name.

RoRo and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] are her most common nicknames, but I also call her plain [name_f]Ro[/name_f] a lot. She’s started calling herself [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_f]Posy[/name_f], I’m not sure how she learned it. I also call her [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], which sometimes gets shortened to [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], which sometimes gets shortened to Roo or RooRoo. My husband calls her “Chicken Dinner,” “Chicken [name_m]Wing[/name_m],” and “Sweet Pea.” I don’t know how any of those started but they stuck.

Dandelion is absolutely adorable!
I have a [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] and we call her [name_u]Nelly[/name_u] or Nellster because she can be such a little monster when she’s sulky. She went through a phase of calling herself [name_f]Coco[/name_f] but thanks goodness it didn’t last long. My husband sometimes calls her [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] or Munchkin, and my mum calls her [name_f]Nelya[/name_f] because it’s the traditional Russian nickname for [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f].

My daughter is [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and she usually gets called Magpie or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] Moo

My daughter is [name_f]Laura[/name_f] (pr. the Spanish way, ‘lao-rah’). DH and I mostly call her Lao, but almost everyone else calls her Lao-ree or [name_f]Laurita[/name_f].

I call my girl Peanut for the most part, but we did think of [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Moon[/name_f] as a cute nickname (after her middle name and that’s the Chinese name we are going with for her as well for my Chinese relatives). However, I hardly use it in real life. I use it more so online and when writing about her, haha!

[name_f]Leonora[/name_f] is mainly called [name_f]Nora[/name_f], but some family call her [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. She also gets [name_m]Lenny[/name_m] from a few friends.
We also call her Ginge thanks to her red curls, but my favourite is NooNoo. Pretty surprised she even know a her real name!

My long suffering daughter has so many, and most of them are shockingly embarrassing. Her official nickname, I guess, is [name_f]Anna[/name_f], but she’s got a whole host of pet names at home.

Family call her [name_f]Bree[/name_f], Bugs, and Buggle. I’ll occasionally call her Bugs, but not often. My sister, additionally calls her Boog and Squash. (I call her daughter Squish… so together they are Squish and Squash, haha). My brother calls her Breebugs. My mother, like every grandmother ever, dotes on her and calls her “[name_f]Nana[/name_f]'s [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_u]Angel[/name_u]”… and she is an angel for her [name_f]Nana[/name_f]… just her [name_f]Nana[/name_f] though.

I’m the worst offender, these are the ones I know I’ve used recently:

Bubble
Panda Pants
Fickle Pickle
[name_m]Danger[/name_m] Mouse
Shark Tooth Ooh Ha Ha (she had new teeth growing in behind baby ones and the dentist called them “shark teeth”, and I love [name_m]Nemo[/name_m])
[name_m]Lemon[/name_m] Cake
Sweet Potato
Pocket [name_m]Rocket[/name_m]
Noodle
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Banana[/name_f]
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f] [name_f]Katy[/name_f]-Rosebug
Buggle [name_m]Bear[/name_m]
[name_f]Kitty[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (after the poem The Adventures of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] by [name_m]Ogden[/name_m] [name_m]Nash[/name_m])

And my favourite, Sweet Ferret.

She thinks its funny now, but I’m pretty sure she’ll pack her bags and move out the first time I call her Sweet Ferret when she’s a teenager.

We have [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] that goes by [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]. He’s also so laid back that he’s been called The Dude since he was born (he’s 8 now). He is also called Curly by his great-grandfather. (He has frosty blonde curls.)

[name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is nicknamed [name_u]Remy[/name_u]. We also call him [name_m]Rem[/name_m] and [name_m]Rem[/name_m]-Roo. Great grandpa calls him [name_m]Rowdy[/name_m].

[name_f]Valentina[/name_f] was nicknamed [name_f]Nina[/name_f] since birth, but she decided that she was going to be nicknamed [name_f]Vali[/name_f] (lol). I call her [name_f]Vali[/name_f]-boo or [name_f]Vali[/name_f]-bug most of the time but we do get random at times:
Twinnie (when we dress alike)
[name_f]Tinnie[/name_f] (from [name_f]Tina[/name_f])
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]-mae
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]-moo
[name_f]Mary[/name_f]-moo
[name_f]Mimi[/name_f]-moo
And so on…

For now the boys have been [name_m]Iago[/name_m] ([name_m]Thiago[/name_m]) and [name_m]Lander[/name_m] ([name_m]Leandro[/name_m]) for our family, but at home when we want to refer to them both they are [name_u]Theo[/name_u] & [name_m]Leo[/name_m] (it’s quite fun that way). They also get Teetee and [name_f]Leelee[/name_f] by [name_f]Vali[/name_f].

My kids have what I consider their “official” nicknames ([name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], and [name_m]Axel[/name_m]), but they each have a bunch of non-official nicknames and pet names, too.

[name_m]William[/name_m] - [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Will[/name_m], [name_m]Wills[/name_m], [name_f]LeeLee[/name_f], [name_u]Billy[/name_u]-boo, Mr. [name_u]Willoughby[/name_u]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] - [name_f]Cate[/name_f], [name_u]Cato[/name_u], [name_f]Kasia[/name_f], RinRin, Rini, [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u]-[name_f]Kat[/name_f], [name_f]Cate[/name_f] the Great
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] - [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_u]Nico[/name_u], VeeVee, VeraSera, Angelface
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] - [name_m]Axel[/name_m], [name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_m]Xander[/name_m], [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_m]Olek[/name_m], XanXan

Probably some more I’m forgetting, but those are probably the most used!

Most of the family call [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] “[name_m]Seb[/name_m]” or “Sebby” but me and DH call him “Bash”.

I’d always liked the name [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] but I started watching [name_u]Reign[/name_u] when I was pregnant and fell in love with it even more. The other characters call him Bash and I thought it was such a cute nickname, it was kind of the deciding factor for us.

You guys have some really cute nicknames!

[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] - [name_m]Gabe[/name_m]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] - [name_f]Mimi[/name_f]

Oh goodness, I seem to come up with something different every day, because I am amazed at the amount of sass and spunkiness this adorable little human can produce. The tried-and-trues include…

[name_f]Sissy[/name_f]
Sassypants
Miss Snottitude
[name_f]Princess[/name_f]
Tootsie
[name_f]Rosy[/name_f] Cheeks
[name_u]Baby[/name_u]-[name_f]Belle[/name_f]
[name_m]Little[/name_m] Miss [name_f]Sunshine[/name_f]
Shortstack
[name_m]Bubba[/name_m] [name_u]Boo[/name_u]
Evabell (after Tinkerbell, of course…yes, we have entered the fairy stage)

Loooooove nicknames. Most of the time [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] is Laska-[name_m]Bean[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] is [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]-[name_m]Bear[/name_m], but sometimes we just call them Lasky and [name_u]Jamie[/name_u], or [name_m]Bean[/name_m] and [name_m]Bear[/name_m]. DH has his own name for [name_f]Alaska[/name_f] (the ultimate daddy’s girl, could not be less bothered with me), which is [name_u]Lake[/name_u]/Lakey, but I’m not entirely sure where that originated from. Sure is cute though

[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] mostly goes by her full name, but sometimes Thali or Sweet T.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is [name_f]Ama[/name_f] almost exclusively. I also call her [name_u]Sunny[/name_u] a lot. [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f] is [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] most of the time, but [name_f]Ama[/name_f] calls her [name_f]Milla[/name_f] because she can’t say [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], which is pretty adorable and I’ve started calling her that too. I call her Bug too, but not realy as often as I call [name_f]Ama[/name_f] [name_u]Sunny[/name_u].

[name_m]Ad[/name_m]èle we call [name_u]Del[/name_u] sometimes but for the most part, she is always [name_m]Ad[/name_m]èle.

Léo, again, is mostly Léo. Sometimes [name_m]Lay[/name_m] if I’m feeling lazy. Léo is pronounced [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-o. [name_m]Ad[/name_m]èle calls him [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-[name_m]Lay[/name_m] sometimes.

We call our son [name_u]James[/name_u] “[name_u]Jamie[/name_u]”. J-man, J-cool, or just J come out of my mouth frequently. My husband started calling him [name_m]Bubba[/name_m] when he was a baby, and that’s stuck (or my variation of Bubby).

We have a [name_u]Hudson[/name_u] but we call him Sausage
