hii <33
i have a question, what do you think about these two polish names?
please be honest, it’s okay if you don’t like them
[name_m]Marcin[/name_m] (MAR-cheen) - polish form of [name_m]Martin[/name_m], meaning a servant of [name_m]Mars[/name_m], god of war
[name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] (mee-KAW-wie) - polish form of [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], meaning victory of the people

I love [name_m]Marcin[/name_m]! It’s unexpected yet recognizable. Such a cool name.
Mikołay is okay. I like basically all forms of [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m], but this isn’t my favourite. I also personally find it hard to say, and that ł is doomed to always be misread/spelled/understood as an l.
I love both - [name_m]Marcin[/name_m] & [name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m] - but I agree with @Wandarine that [name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m] might be very difficult to pronounce outside of Poland. But if the pronunciation in an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking world doesn’t bother you, then I think that both of these names are a win, they’re so very charming

I third what has been said about [name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m]. [name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is SO cool, I love it!
I think they’re both sooo handsome!! <3 [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] is my favourite of the two, it just has a really cute, friendly and sunny vibe to me! And the nickname [name_f]Miko[/name_f] feels really fun, and could make up for any pronunciation issues that a [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] would encounter outside of Poland. [name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is also fun, like a cooler, more current [name_m]Martin[/name_m]!

[name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is distinctive and interesting but grounded too - I like the sharpness of it and the ‘Mar’ sound
[name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] has a cool sound, though I think I need to get used to it - does the final syllable rhyme with eye or lee?

@Greyblue the final syllable was meant to rhyme with “eye”
english is not my first language, so i’m sorry if i wrote the pronunciation wrong
@lilac.fairy you didn’t
That’s what I thought it would be, but I just wanted to check!

I love Polish names! [name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is one I’ve admired visually but wasn’t familiar with the pronunciation - I don’t think I like the sound as much as the visual aesthetic of [name_m]Marcin[/name_m], but I’m a fan of [name_m]Martin[/name_m] names in general due to the tie to [name_m]Martin[/name_m] [name_m]Luther[/name_m].
[name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m] I agree would be pretty hard to live with, but I’m not a huge fan of [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] forms in general; [name_m]Nikolaj[/name_m] is my favorite, but I prefer Nicholas/Cole/Klaus or [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] over Nikolai/Mikolaj myself.
Good luck

[name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is my favorite of the two! [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] has a cool sound, I would definitely need to keep the pronunciation close to me because I would keep forgetting but I would easily get used to it. They are both interesting and lovely!

I’m 1/4 Polish and speak the language, so I’m familiar with Polish names.
I love [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m], it’s my favorite of all the Nicolas-related names
[name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is okay, but feels a bit plain to me.
In a non-Polish context pronunciation could be a problem for both names, especially [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m], as others have said.

[name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m] is very charming and a very handsome choice for a boy! I really like it. What’s a common nickname for [name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m] in Polish? I think [name_f]Miko[/name_f] is really sweet and fun.
[name_m]Marcin[/name_m] is a interesting choice too, but I prefer [name_m]Mikolaj[/name_m].

@Estrela common nicknames are [name_f]Miki[/name_f], Mikuś and Mikołajek. i also came across the diminutive Miś, which is very cute (it means teddy bear), but is much more known as the diminutive of [name_m]Michał[/name_m] than of [name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m]

[name_m]Mikołaj[/name_m] is lovely, a long-time favourite of mine! [name_f]Love[/name_f] the diminutives too.
I agree that [name_m]Marcin[/name_m] feels a little plain, but it’s a good solid name.
I also love [name_m]Mieszko[/name_m] in the Polish M-name category.
