For me, [name]Alec[/name] has been a long standing favorite name
I’ve recently found out that it has some associations with Twilight (I have no idea what; I’m not a Twilight worshiper). [name]Do[/name] you think this matters? I’ve become a little put off it because of it.
So do you like it? Would you use it even though it has somewhat of a Twilight theme? Can you think of a middle name to go with it?
I’m not a huge Twilight fan, but I have read all the books. I don’t remember anyone named [name]Alec[/name]. That’s not saying much, but it leads me to believe he was not an important character!!
Now, for the name [name]Alec[/name], I [name]LOVE[/name] IT!
My family has 7 generations of [name]Alexander[/name]'s and so everyone has a different nn. My brother is [name]Alex[/name], my uncle is [name]Sandy[/name] and my grandfather was [name]Alec[/name].
[name]Alec[/name] is absolutely my fav of them all, it’s a little twist on a timeless classic!
I also come from a long line of Alexanders and had considered [name]Alec[/name]. It’s a fine name, but everyone’s going to be on alert for a certain kind of teasing, a certain kind of talking back, coming from him.
In the grand scheme of things it won’t be a big deal.
[name]Alec[/name] makes me think of [name]Alec[/name] Guinness. I’m 36, so maybe that just shows my age. ?
I’m only marginally familiar with Twilight, but I don’t remember an [name]Alec[/name] either. I don’t necessarily think Twilight will have the cross-generational allure of say, [name]Star[/name] Wars, so I wouldn’t worry about that long-term.
I think it’s a great name! I’ve liked it ever since reading the [name]Black[/name] Stallion series when I was a kid–it’s the name of the main (human) character. I’ve read all the Twilight books and don’t remember an [name]Alec[/name], either.
I love [name]Alec[/name], both on it’s own and as a nickname for [name]Alexander[/name]. The character in the Twilight series is a fairly minor character, so I don’t think you’ll have to worry about that. If you’ve loved it for a long time and it has a family connection, I say go for it. I don’t think you can go wrong with [name]Alec[/name]-it’s a great name!
My 6 year old son is named [name]Alec[/name] and we just love it! He is [name]Alexander[/name] [name]James[/name] (for his 2 granddads) but we have called him [name]Alec[/name] fom day 1…
I am a huge twilight fan, and can confirm the character [name]Alec[/name] in the books is a very small character…I think I only noticed him because he has my son’s name, lol!
The only issue with the name is this…I spend my whole life saying “[name]Alec[/name] with a C” and still, half the world wants to call him [name]Alex[/name]…but Im okay about that…as a matter of fact, I spend my life saying “[name]Alec[/name] with a C and [name]Arran[/name] like the island”…I gave both boys my confusing names!
All in all though, its a fabulous name, and as the name-lady says its “much fresher sounding than alex”…and [name]Alec[/name] is the main a character in a lovely george macdonald book called “[name]Alec[/name] [name]Forbes[/name]”
I think of [name]Alec[/name] Guiness too! :o And also [name]Alec[/name] [name]Baldwin[/name].
But top of mind for me is “smart [name]Alec[/name]” - sorry! It was used a lot when I was growing up, maybe not so much any more, and I suppose there are worse things to be teased about your name for than having the the word “smart” linked to it!
