The name [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] has really been growing on me lately. I think I prefer the simplicity of that spelling rather than [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]. I’m not quite sure what the most common pronunciation is though… [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-uh-leese (starting with the an sound, as in the word “and”) or more like onna-leese? And what are your thoughts on the name?
I like [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] a lot! I waffle between [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], and Annalyse (which is generally way too trendy for me, but it was the first spelling I have come across, so I’m still quite partial to it). I say [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-lease, but in a [name_m]German[/name_m] context, I would say [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] as ah-nah-LEEZ-eh. I don’t think I would say any of the other spellings that way, though.
It is pronounced the exact same, and it’s actually the most common spelling and usage in the USA.
By general rule of thumb - ‘aNNa’ is [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-nuh and ‘aNa’ is aw-nuh.
I think the sound of [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] is lovely but I’m not a fan of this spelling. I prefer the original [name_m]German[/name_m] [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] as all the others just look wrong to me.
The pronunciation is definitely [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-lees for [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] and [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-neh-lees/An-nuh-lees for [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f].
I pronounce it ann-eye-eezz
I am not a fan of [name_f]Annalise[/name_f]. I actually prefer [name_f]Annalisa[/name_f] slightly and would pronounce the former ann-uh-leez.
I pronounce it the same way as you do.
Ok, so I’m still confused! ” [name_f]Do[/name_f] you say the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] part of the name with the same as sound as in the word “and” or is the [name_f]Ana[/name_f] said with more of a short a sound as in the word “auditorium”? Or maybe either one is correct, and it’s just preference? ”
If you live in the states, it is likely that everyone will pronounce it [name_f]Anna[/name_f]-lise as in the word “and”.
[name_f]Ann[/name_f]-uh-lease, but if I was travelling/living in Germany it would [name_f]Ann[/name_f]-uh-lisa. In Australia, we very rarely use an Aw- sound in names, mostly everything is a hard A sound. [name_f]Analise[/name_f] would probably get pronounced the same [name_f]Annalise[/name_f].
I too prefer [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] too, but I know that in [name_u]America[/name_u] the other spelling is more common. Either way it’s lovely.
