What do you think of Daria?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone! I speak Russian, and [name_f]Daria[/name_f] is a very common name in Russian-speaking countries. I love it, but I was wondering what everyone here thinks. Associations, connotations, etc?

Also, I’m studying Farsi, and [name_f]Daria[/name_f] is the word for “sea” :))

Thank you :))

I love [name_f]Daria[/name_f] and I actually know two girls with this name that wear it very well, they’re both so lovely so I’ll always have a good association with this name

I also love the nickname [name_f]Dasha[/name_f], I think it adds an extra spark to a quite familiar [name_f]Daria[/name_f] :white_heart::sparkles::cherry_blossom:

I knew a [name_f]Daria[/name_f] in college, and I think it’s a very versatile name, easy to spell and pronounce, which I think is a plus, and in that happy medium of familiar but not common. I don’t have any associations with it, so it’s a nice, neutral choice in that respect as well.

I like it! The only association I have is with the old MTV cartoon.

I like it a lot, especially with the nickname [name_f]Dasha[/name_f]!

Yep like @Alix2016 my only association with it is the old cartoon. Which has definitely affected how I view the name.

I think its a great name. However in my accent it would be too easy to mishear as diarrhea so I would never use it. But if you live somewhere not [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking (or somewhere where [name_f]English[/name_f] is spoken with a more clear/ distinct accent) I think it would be a lovely name.

I think of :poop: since it’s so close in sound.

Honestly it’s one of my favorite names and one that I find absolutely beautiful! [name_f]My[/name_f] SO isn’t a fan, unfortunately, due to the closeness to diarrhea but when I say it out loud, I really don’t hear it! I guess it depends on accents.

I know it’s a Russian name, but it is also a word in Spanish meaning “to give”, which I find lovely and poetic in some way :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I think of the cartoon, that’s my only association so it kind of monopolises the ‘vibe’ of the name for me.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Dasha[/name_f] though!

[name_f]My[/name_f] oldest friend is named [name_f]Daria[/name_f] (German). I thought it was the coolest name ever growing up, I was jealous! I really like it

[name_f]Daria[/name_f] is beautiful and yes, does come with a very heavy Russian association. I pronounce it (DAR-ee-uh) and think that that is pretty easy to get the hang of. The name seems royal somehow and is unique here in the states so that’ll be a plus for it in my book
It helps that [name_f]Daria[/name_f] also reminds me of the (perhaps related?) name [name_f]Dariana[/name_f]. It’s a little “excessive” and frilly but I think it has a cool bad ass type edge to it when compared with other long elaborations of quite feminine girl names
