I have quite a few ‘old lady names’ on my list of favourites. One of my favourites right now is [name_f]Hilda[/name_f], but I’m wondering if it is a bit too old fashioned. What are your honest opinions on [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] as a first name?
I think it’s sweet, pretty cottagecore. And I think the Netflix cartoon [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] gives it a freshness.
Thank you, I’ve never heard of the cartoon - though I don’t watch much so that’s not a surprise.
Sweet and due a comeback I reckon ![]()
I love it! Strong with vintage charm.
It does feel a bit too old-lady to me. Some similar names that I prefer are [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Linda[/name_f], & [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
love [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]! so pretty, sweet, and strong. I’d love to meet a little Hilda!!
[name_m]Ah[/name_m], I like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] a lot - kind of clunky cute and charming
I think it’s old but ready for a comeback
I absolutely adore Hilda!!! I also love the variations Hilla & Hulda ![]()
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is so great! It reminds me of snowflakes, white snow caps on mountains, and boots in snow. A very wintry name. Scarves, hot cocoa, and little girls with pink cheeks! [name_f]Hildy[/name_f] is a spicy, great nickname.

I’m friendly with a grandma-aged “Hildy”, she’s a real character, sharp as a tack and sassy. She’s certainly changed the name for me.
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] feels heavy to me, but [name_f]Hildy[/name_f] could be cute. Very unexpected though.
I think it’s really sweet! It’s similarity to [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] makes it available for a comeback, whereas it isn’t as old and eerie sounding as [name_f]Helga[/name_f] and [name_f]Olga[/name_f] (although they have their beauties
). I like it a lot!
many vintage names are making a comeback, so I don’t see why [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] can’t!
While it reminds me of a sour old woman in a fish shop, gutting a piranha while chewing tobacco and telling off her husband, [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] certainly has it’s charms. It also reminds me of a vintage car so it’s giving me mixed messages.
I prefer [name_f]Hildegard[/name_f], nicknamed [name_f]Hildy[/name_f].
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] I don’t like. It sounds harsh and old ladyish to the extreme… as in can never be resurrected
I like [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]! It actually does not seem old at all to me and sounds cool, modern, breezy, sassy and with a Scandinavian / [name_m]German[/name_m] charm?? Reminds me of Alpes and flowers and snow, but also of forests and music. And of that strong, courageous and intelligent protagonist of the [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] cartoon who loves animals and nature and we should take inspiration from!
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is a good choice.
I really love it! There is a super sweet children’s book by [name_u]Karma[/name_u] [name_u]Wilson[/name_u] called called [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] Must be Dancing about a dancing Hippo. It is adorable and really makes the name feel fresh and usable again! It has been one of my favorites for a long time and it is due for a comeback! [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!
I think it’s still very old-ladyish, I prefer the fresher [name_f]Tilda[/name_f].
