We are having our third child and our third boy - so choosing another boy name is tougher this time around. I love the name “[name]Link[/name]” - probably [name]Link[/name] [name]Ronin[/name]. What do you think??? It goes very well with the other two boys’ names and with our last name. Any opinions would be appreciated! I just want to know what reactions would be to it as it’s very uncommon.
I don’t mind [name]Link[/name] as a nn for [name]Lincoln[/name] but personally [name]Link[/name] [name]Ronin[/name] sounds like a soap opera character much like [name]Thorne[/name], [name]Ridge[/name] and [name]Brock[/name] (I don’t know what your other two boys names but I’m guessing that they may be short word names too). I would classify [name]Link[/name] as a “name that tries too hard to be cool”. Sorry but [name]Link[/name] just sounds a little heavy on the macho swagger for my comfort level. But if you love it, then maybe it’s the name for you.
If [name]Link[/name] goes with your other sons’ names, then that’s great and he will sound right within the family, but outside of the household I have a feeling the name will be regarded as strange and brazenly odd. I vastly prefer [name]Ronan[/name] spelled with an A, because it feels fuller and more complete, but that isn’t really a problem and just a suggestion. I would say that if you think [name]Link[/name] [name]Ronin[/name] is the right name for your son, then you can use it, but I might search a little further for names that actually sound more like names and less like a flailing attempt to give your son a cool name. I like [name]Roan[/name] and [name]Frost[/name] in the one-syllable word names category, but [name]Roan[/name] doesn’t go with [name]Ronin[/name]. Going towards more names that are real names, [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] could be alternatives. Whatever you choose, pick what you like! If [name]Link[/name] is really what you want, then use [name]Link[/name]!
It is a little soap character-y. It also reminds me of the Legends of [name]Zelda[/name]. And Hairspray.
Beyond that, it is cute. Given name cute? Nah. But it would make a nice nickname. I like the [name]Lincoln[/name] suggestion, though [name]Lincoln[/name] [name]Ronin[/name] is a bit -in sound heavy.
I like it as a nickname for [name]Lincoln[/name] but not as a stand alone name.
I agree with the above, prefer it as a nn for [name]Lincoln[/name]. What about [name]Ronin[/name] as a first name?
I also like it best as a nn - but it’s definitely a cute nn! It’s just a bit too noun-ish on its own.
[name]Link[/name] [name]Ronin[/name] sounds a bit [name]Secret[/name] Agent to me …but [name]Lincoln[/name] is cool on it’s own as is [name]Ronin[/name].
I agree with previous posters… go with [name]Lincoln[/name] on paper, and just call him [name]Link[/name]. That way, he does have an option when he’s older to go with the longer sounding, more “professional” name.
We’ve done this with our boy names… we started with nick names that we liked, and expanded them into the full names for paper, but have every intention of calling them by their nick names until (or if) they begin to object, and want their full name used.
I say this with pretty much every post, but if you like [name]Ronin[/name] as the middle name, then use it. Disregard “it doesn’t flow” statements. Middle names are very seldom ever used past the birth announcement stage (unless you’re mad at them, lol). I have a hard time remembering the middle names of my 10 neices and nephews. I certainly don’t remember 98% of the middle names of friends’ children after the first month or so.
