I came across this name when looking at variations of [name]Mary[/name] (my grandmother’s name). Right now we’re still torn between [name]Holly[/name] and [name]Julia[/name], but I’m wondering if we should consider [name]Marin[/name]/Maryn as well??
We want something classic but not overly popular. Is this one too out there? I’m thinking it’s not really classic?
Is it sophisticated? Smart? Fun? Would pronounciation be a problem?
(If you do like [name]Marin[/name]/Maryn, which spelling would be best? Middle name would likely be [name]Catherine[/name]/[name]Kathryn[/name] or [name]Holly[/name]).
Honest opinions, please! If you hate it, tell me! Thanks in advance!
I love the [name]Marin[/name] spelling! This name was on my list for a long time, but ultimately was removed because it sounds pretty rhymey with my surname. I love the meaning for you, since your grandmother’s name is [name]Mary[/name]. I personally prefer it over [name]Holly[/name] and [name]Julia[/name]!
I hadn’t even considered the “[name]Maren[/name]” spelling… I’d thought of Maryn since it was most similar to my grandmother’s name, but I think I do prefer [name]Marin[/name].
leonielee- Hmm, come to think of it, [name]Marin[/name] is pretty rhymey with my surname (which is pronounced like “Nav-a-lynn” but spelled -line) as well… do you think it works or no?
I know a very cute sophisticated girl named [name]Marin[/name] but she is the only one I’ve ever met. I actually think I like a spelling with two r’s though. No?
[name]Marrin[/name]
Marren
Marryn
Or would this spelling make it a short a instead of long a? I like long a pronunciation.
Im not sure however that i like kathyn as middle name w/ it b/c they end w/ the same sound and just doesnt roll off the tongue as well to me when said together.
I pronounce [name]Maren[/name] and [name]Marin[/name] differently
[name]Maren[/name] = [name]MAIR[/name]-en
[name]Marin[/name] = muh_[name]RIN[/name] (like [name]Marin[/name] County which is north of San [name]Francisco[/name])
And I’ve never seen Maryn so I would probably ask how it is pronounced if I saw it on paper before meeting your little one.
[name]How[/name] are you pronouncing it?
I think both are beautiful, but to me, [name]Marin[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] and your last name all end in the same sound.
Good luck!
I love the [name]Maren[/name] spelling. This is my cousin’s name (hers is spelled [name]Merryn[/name], but it is pronounced the same) - she is smart, pretty and successful (therefore, this is the image that I associate with the name). She has had some pronunciation issues, but I think spelling it [name]Maren[/name]/[name]Marin[/name] would solve that problem.
Because [name]Kathryn[/name]/[name]Catherine[/name] has a similar ending sound as [name]Maren[/name]/[name]Marin[/name]/Maryn/[name]Merryn[/name], I’d choose [name]Holly[/name] as the middle name.
[name]Maren[/name] [name]Holly[/name] is gorgeous, spunky, a little different and yet, easy to pronounce! A great choice!
Sorry, I don’t like [name]Marin[/name] or Maryn… I’d actually prefer [name]Mary[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Julia[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], or [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Holly[/name].
