Recently I met a little boy whose given name is [name]Michael[/name] and who goes by [name]Milo[/name] for short. I’ve only ever heard [name]Milo[/name] as a name by itself or a nickname for [name]Miles[/name], but I am intrigued by the idea of it as a nn for [name]Michael[/name]. What do you all think?
I can see why you might consider [name]Milo[/name] but for me it’s just too different of a name to really work as a nn for [name]Michael[/name].
I prefer the more traditional nn’ such as [name]Mick[/name], [name]Mickey[/name], [name]Micky[/name], [name]Mike[/name], [name]Mikey[/name], [name]Michi[/name], and [name]Mica[/name].
I really like [name]Milo[/name] as a nn for [name]Michael[/name]! I think it spices up [name]Michael[/name] a bit.
The kid is a 3rd, with a granddad that goes by [name]Mickey[/name] and a dad that goes by [name]Mike[/name], so I suspect they just wanted something a bit different.
I’ve long liked the name [name]Milo[/name] for very little kids, but wouldn’t be able to use it as I’m in Aus where the chocolate drink association would be too strong - but I would use [name]Michael[/name] as a mn for a son most likely, so I was just interested in a possible way to get it for an at-home baby nickname plus just thought it was an interesting idea haha
I think [name]Milo[/name] is a great nn for [name]Michael[/name] especially in the circumstances described.
I’d use [name]Michael[/name] [name]Lucas[/name] (or something with a better flow!) to get to [name]Milo[/name].
Yeah, I agree it seems more intuitive when followed by an L- name. I like the idea of [name]Leo[/name], it runs together a bit but puts all the sounds in the right order. [name]Louis[/name] would work, too, I think.
I don’t think nicknames have to connect that strongly to the given name, being that it’s just a nickname. Kids are called all kinds of things that don’t necessarily have any connection to their given name, and it’s a friendly, affectionate thing.
[name]Milo[/name] has more of a connection to [name]Michael[/name] than some other nicknames that I’ve heard on some children.
