What do you Think of Morticia?

I’ve been hearing the name Morticia a lot around here (where I live) and I have to ask, what do you think of the name Morticia?

It honestly sounds too much to me, and I could never see it on a teenager
Nn Mortie is kinda cute but it would make me think of a boy

[name_m]Mort[/name_m] = dead. I don’t understand why would anyone name their daughter Morticia.

Morticia Addams is my immediate and overwhelming association. I don’t think it’s usable.

I can only think of the Addams family. It’s a very morbid sounding name.

I think it works great on the Addams family, but in real life, as nice, and dark as it sounds, it’d be firmly on the guilty pleasure, too weird to use list. It’s just so close to mortician, I don’t think it would go down very well, at least where I live.

I actually love how it sounds and I’m a big fan of female names ending in -ia. I also like its obscure vibe (reminds me of names like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] or Merope), but I agree with the previous posters and I think it would always be associated with Morticia Addams and its meaning is “death”, so I don’t think it can be useable.

I’d think the parents were either die-hard Addams Family fans or that they belonged to some kind of cult involving death considering Morticia was made up for The Addams Family because it made Mortician sound feminine.

I think it’s pretty damn weird. Sometimes I worry that Nameberry is altering users’ views of what is and is not a weird/inappropriate/completely over the top name outside of the very small community here on NB. Assuming you aren’t trolling, this is a good ecample of what I’m talking about. You can’t honestly believe that Morticia (used for the character of Morticia Addams because it’s one letter away from mortician) is an appropriate name for a child.

Morticia instantly reminds me of death and gloom, since mort = death and a mortician is someone who prepares dead bodies to be buried. Morticia is merely the name of a fictional morbid character in The Addams Family. It’s definitely not a name intended for wide usage.

I love The Addams family, but I would never name anything other than a cat Morticia.
