What do you think of Ozzy (or Ozzie)?

Hi! I’m looking for genuine opinions on the name Ozzy for a little boy. My partner and I both really like it, but I’m hesitating to commit to it because

  1. it feels like a nickname (but I don’t like any of the long forms)
  2. I worry about it being too fun?/casual?/quirky? if he ends up in a professional field
  3. I worry about it not ageing well

Are those reasonable fears or do you like it? Our daughter is Hazel, so it would be Hazel and Ozzy. Last name is Merrill, so Ozzy Merrill, which I thought sounded pretty cool. I figure I’d give him a more formal middle name that he could go by if he needed to be professional.

Finally, Ozzy or Ozzie? THANKS!!!

Love love LOVE Ozzy and Ozzie. I prefer it on a girl because it sounds so quirky and cute on a girl, but it still sounds so sweet on a boy. If you don’t mind older generations immediately associating the name with Ozzy Osbourne then go for it! (I love it partially bcuz I’m a huge Ozzy fan :star_struck:)

I also think Ozzy or Ozzie goes well with Hazel. I like the “z” theme in their names.

But I think Ozzy is fine as its own name, it doesn’t sound like a nickname to me. I also don’t think it sounds too fun or quirky for a professional field and even if someone somewhere did, people aren’t required to be cookie cutter perfect with a perfectly professional and boring name like Bob or something. Ozzy sounds like the kind of boss who is laid back, kind, has good humor and cares about his employees.

As far as it aging well, I don’t think you have to worry about that. Ozzy is unique, it stands out, and it won’t sound weird on him as a grown man if that’s what you’re worried about.

I love it so much more for a girl! If I were having a girl, I don’t think I’d hesitate. But alas…

I love how [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] both have that Z in the middle! It ties them together without sounding too similar or being too matchy.

I really like Ozzy/ie! I genuinely think it will age perfectly fine and will work fine in a professional field. I prefer the [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] spelling, but I like both!

I love the name [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m], and I love it with [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and with the surname [name_u]Merrill[/name_u]! Absolutely perfect! I see it age if really nicely. I can’t imagine an age at which [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] wouldn’t work. So jovial and strong.

I love Ozzie!! I think it’s substantial enough and [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] are a delight! it is fun but I don’t think that would stop it being professional

I think of [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] [name_m]Osborne[/name_m] (sp) so I really dislike it. A formal name that could be nicknamed [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] would be my preference.

I’m an Aussie! Here in Australia, [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] is mainly a name for dogs because of this sounding the same.
Occasionally, it is used as a nickname for something longer. When I was having my son, in the room next to me in the hospital was a baby named [name_m]Ozias[/name_m] and they were calling him [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u].

I think [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] works as a full name, even here, and would love to see it used more. I really like nicknames as full names on the birth certificate.

I’d say [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] as a stand alone name and [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] as a short form of something longer works best.

The Z in [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] is super cool and makes it such a power sib-set.

I’d say go for it!

I like [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] / [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] a lot! But I go for [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] more because I usually associate ‘i’s’ and ‘ie’s’ with being more girlish. [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] also sounds quite good together but I’m not certain how well a 30 something year old man could wear this name. Perhaps think about [name_m]Osmond[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]?

[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] + [name_m]Osmond[/name_m]
[name_u]Or[/name_u] also…

[name_m]Esmond[/name_m]
[name_m]Cosmas[/name_m]
[name_m]Zelyg[/name_m]
[name_m]Algernon[/name_m] nickname [name_m]Alger[/name_m]
[name_u]Leo[/name_u]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Elidor[/name_m]
[name_u]Pascoe[/name_u]
[name_m]Lev[/name_m]
[name_m]Antony[/name_m]
[name_u]Mars[/name_u]
[name_m]Theon[/name_m]
[name_m]Marko[/name_m]
[name_u]George[/name_u]
[name_u]Dale[/name_u]
[name_m]Lazare[/name_m]
[name_u]Beckett[/name_u]
[name_m]Byron[/name_m]
[name_m]Harman[/name_m]
[name_m]Weyland[/name_m]
[name_u]Mishka[/name_u] (since you seem to like nickname or diminutive names)
[name_u]Darby[/name_u]
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u]
[name_m]Clark[/name_m]
Sevian (say-v-ahn)
[name_u]Clancy[/name_u]

I personally can’t get myself to like it because of the rockstar association but even so I don’t think an [name_m]Ozzy[/name_m] born today would have trouble in the professional world or aging well.
