I like [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] but prefer the spelling of [name_m]Josef[/name_m] - I think it looks simpler. Although we will probably be correcting people when it comes to spelling because [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] is the popular way to spell it. What do you think of it??Thanks.
The [name_m]Josef[/name_m] spelling looks like some ethnic variation to me. I think some may assume it’s also pronounced differently, for example, YOH-sehf.
If you don’t mind that your child would often have to correct people, why not? I like them equally.
[name_m]Josef[/name_m] is a legitimate spelling for some European cultures (eg. [name_m]German[/name_m] although the first syllable is pronounced “[name_f]YO[/name_f]” not “[name_u]JO[/name_u]”) so I think it’s fine. If you think it’s worth having to spell it, then go for it! I don’t mind the spelling myself.
Still looks and sounds like boring old [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] to me. Unless you pronounce it [name_f]YO[/name_f]-sef, which I love.
If you came from Europe then [name_m]Josef[/name_m] would be intuitive but not so here. Go with [name_m]Joseph[/name_m].
I don’t see anything wrong with using [name_m]Josef[/name_m]. I quite like it myself, I just can’t stand the nickname [name_m]Joe[/name_m].
I live in an multicultural area and I often come across [name_m]Josef[/name_m], usually it’s from parents who want their child’s name to be familiar in two different cultures. And here at least it could be [name_u]JO[/name_u]-sef or [name_f]YO[/name_f]-sef. We have the same kinda thing with [name_m]Jorge[/name_m], some pronounce it Hor-Heh & others pronounce it like [name_m]George[/name_m].
I guess my point is [name_m]Josef[/name_m] is a legitimate alternate spelling and could be pronounced however you want.
I’d probably pronounce [name_m]Josef[/name_m] as [name_f]Yo[/name_f]-sef, but I don’t see anything wrong with it being pronounced [name_u]Jo[/name_u]-sef.
