What do you think of the Eros?

[name]Eros[/name] is an old greek name, the greeks version of cupid actually, and I love this name for a boy! Mostly because of the ways its sounds, it is pronounced [name]Air[/name]-Ohs (the best phonetic spelling I could think of for it at least). Plus it is highly uncommon and unique which I like.

A. But does it sound normal enough for everyday use in mondern midwest [name]America[/name]?

B. What type of baby/child/adult do you picture when you hear/read the name?

C. What personality treats does it make you think of?

D. Have you ever meet or heard of a boy/man named [name]Eros[/name] in your life?

E. [name]Do[/name] you like the name?

Thanks so much Berries for your thoughts!

[name]Love[/name] [name]Eros[/name]! He’s the Greek God of love and sexual intercourse (it’s that second part that throws me off a little)

A. But does it sound normal enough for everyday use in mondern midwest [name]America[/name]? I think it could be fine. We have much weirder names with much less history. Besides, people use [name]Persephone[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Apollo[/name] and others so why not [name]Eros[/name]?

B. What type of baby/child/adult do you picture when you hear/read the name? I picture a fun and playful little boy, and a smooth, suave adult

C. What personality treats does it make you think of? I just talked about that in the last question

D. Have you ever meet or heard of a boy/man named [name]Eros[/name] in your life? i’ve never met on [name]IRL[/name] but there’s someone on here named [name]Eros[/name]

E. [name]Do[/name] you like the name? I [name]LOVE[/name] it

Me and my bf were actually very seriously considering [name]Eros[/name] for our son! We are now going to use it for a middle name though because I’m worried that our son would get teased.

A. I think it could survive alright but you will might get some negative feedback from people who will think it’s “weird” or “too out there” or “too heavy to carry”

B. I picture a dark haired little boy who is very confident and athletic

C. Confident, Outgoing, Funny

D. Never met someone in real life with the name [name]Eros[/name]

E. OBVIOUSLY I [name]LOVE[/name] IT!!

It’s nice to know me and my bf aren’t the only ones that would ever consider [name]Eros[/name]!!

A. Yes, he could go by [name]Ro[/name]
B. Greek, Italian, or just Mediterranean-looking (tan skin, [name]Black[/name] hair), or maybe even a red head
C. Confident, sweet, suave
D. No
E. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Eros[/name]! I never thought of it until mandanyx started posting about it. It sounds both strong and soft and it ages well

It is so cool that you & your bf like [name]Eros[/name] too!!! I thought no one would know what I’m talking about and I’m happy I’m not some random weirdo who likes old Greek mythology names and that you’ve posted on here about it as well  I found the name last year when I was doing a paper on Greek culture for my psychology class. I was wondering if you where an ancient Greece buff too or Greek or just really savvy when it comes to names? I’d love to pick your brain sometime and hear what your favorites are!

A: I am less concerned about it sounding “normal” (the “sound” is fine) as I am about the well-known association with the name’s sexual connotations. That to me is a deal-breaker for a first name, at least.

B: I don’t know… I guess I could conjur up the ideal image, but my fear is that the child who receives it may not fit that image and thus, [name]Eros[/name] could be a bit of a burden to carry.

C: Suave, flirty, womanizer or perhaps a really sappy, emotional, sensitive man. Either way, I am not loving it.

D: No, and my assumption is that it’s generally avoided due the meaning/associations of the name. In other words, this name may be underused for a very good reason as opposed to some underused names which are just gems waiting to be discovered.

E: No, sorry. :frowning: Again, I like the sound of it, but would prefer [name]Aaron[/name] or something with a history that is less loaded.

I like the name, but to answer Part A- it’s going to be a stand out name. (I’m in the midwest) Some people will love it, some people won’t, but it’s going to stand out either way. Definitely not an everyday use type of name.

Some parents don’t care about this factor, but if it is a main concern, I would hesitate. I say this regardless of whether I like the name or not.

I have never known an [name]Eros[/name].

I think it is a bad idea. [name]Eros[/name] leads to erotic, erotica etc and I just don’t find that appropriate for a baby, child, or man.

Does it sound normal enough for everyday use in the midwest? Uh, no. I like unique names and it seems you do too which is why you’re asking if anyone has ever met one. But there’s no way it’s going to be “normal”.

I agree with the pp, that [name]Eros[/name] is mostly known as the origin for erotic/erotica and that it’s a very sexual name. There are many names that mean love or tie into love, but this is much more sexual. I’m sorry but as much as I love mythology, I would find this inappropriate. To me I would only imagine to find the name at Chippendale’s.

All I can hear is erotic. Not really a good mental image for a 2 year old

A. I think it would be normal enough for everyday use
B. I think of a little boy with big green eyes and dark brown hair.
C. Outgoing, Funny, Mischievious (but in a good way)
D. No I have not met anybody with this name.
E. I love this name!

I love the sound of the name, but the meaning/association to me is too much to bestow upon a little boy. I would certainly feel sorry for him when the class does the Greek mythology unit.

I love Greek mythology, but I think the name is definitely too “erotic” for a child. Sorry!

I’m not a fan, mainly because it sounds a bit harsh to my ears…But I’m slowly liking it for some reason.

My apologies, but I’m with the others who immediately think of the sexual connotations. I mean… look at what websites come up when you type it in. I actually don’t think it’s a bad name otherwise, but I would really hesitate to use that name nowadays.

Definitely not. “Erotic” is not what I want anyone to associate with an innocent child.

A. But does it sound normal enough for everyday use in mondern midwest [name]America[/name]? I think as far as unusual names it’s fine.

B. What type of baby/child/adult do you picture when you hear/read the name? All I think of is the god of erotic love.

C. What personality treats does it make you think of? someone sly or weird

D. Have you ever meet or heard of a boy/man named [name]Eros[/name] in your life? No

E. [name]Do[/name] you like the name? No.
