What do you think of the name Carter for a boy?

I’m really starting to like the name [name_u]Carter[/name_u] for a boy. Where I live, it’s not used very often. In fact, I’ve never heard the name here and it’s not listed high on the charts. I am worried that people won’t like it. I found the name on baby name websites. What do you think of the name [name_u]Carter[/name_u]? Thank you. Not pregnant, just name collecting since the age of 14

It feels dated to me. Where I live, [name_u]Carter[/name_u] was really popular in the 90s and early 2000s. Most of the Carters I know are teens and preteens, if not older. What’s more, they tend to be obnoxious and/or troublemakers. I wouldn’t recommend it.

I only know a 4yo named [name_u]Carter[/name_u], because he’s such a cutie, I happen to think it’s great name.
Unfortunately, I have a thing against surnames as first names and don’t think I could ever use it.
I do like [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m] though

It’s alright. Not my style, and honestly I don’t have much of an opinion on it.
It’s not offensive, just a bit too dull and Americanised (see [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Austen[/name_u], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u], [name_u]Chase[/name_u]).

I suppose it’s got quite a soft sound to it that I like though.

I like the name but I also know lots of little [name_u]Carter[/name_u]'s around here (upstate NY)

It immediately reminds me of the widely sold brand of baby clothing, though that probably wouldn’t matter much when he’s older. It isn’t my cup of tea, but it isn’t horrible either.

I know of a few young Carters around here, and to me it’s very dated-trendy. In fact, I was surprised each time I found out the baby’s name, thinking, ‘did his parents really pick that name of all names?!’

I also immediately think of the baby/kids clothing brand.

I’m not a fan of [name_u]Carter[/name_u] but I’d rather hear it on a boy than on a girl (someone I grew up with named her daughter [name_u]Carter[/name_u]).

I actually really like it…much more than half of the names the people on here seem to like. I’m from the 90’s and I’ve never met anyone with that name, so I don’t really see how it’s that trendy. If you like it that’s what matters!

Checking the statistics on it on nameberry it’s actually trending now, not before, haha. But either way, cute name!

I love the name [name_u]Carter[/name_u]! I know several great kids name [name_u]Carter[/name_u], of different ages. It’s not dated at all, it’s a good strong boy/mans name.
Much prefer it to a lot of the interesting/weird names brought up on this site.

I know a little [name_u]Carter[/name_u] born this year. The name is still quite popular in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]. It is a name I like but wouldn’t use. I like surname names, but I find they often look and feel clunky when pronounced in full with first and last name.
