What do you think of the name Emelyn?

My husband and I are expecting our first girl (after two boys) and we are having a hard time settling on a name. What do you think of the name [name_f]Emelyn[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Emme[/name_f])? Alternate spellings are welcome! The other name we like is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f]. Which would you pick??

Why not [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (em-uh-line)? [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is gorgeous and less trendy looking than [name_f]Emelyn[/name_f].

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is much prettier and more classic, and i feel lens itself more easily to nn [name_f]Emme[/name_f].

Beautiful. [name_f]Emelyn[/name_f]'s gorgeous medieval loveliness, and [name_f]Emme[/name_f] is darling.

I like this name, it is very pretty! Cute nn too.

I agree…[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is very pretty, just not sure how it “goes” with my sons’ names–[name_m]Braden[/name_m] and [name_u]Carter[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it…[name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line, emma-lyn or emma-leen?

I’d pronounce it emma-line.

I don’t know how it was originally meant to be pronounced but I believe [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] where it is acceptable to say either “line” or “lynn”.
Personally I like phonic spellings like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], and [name_f]Emelyn[/name_f] because it is just easier on everyone. (As long as your pronouncing -lyn as [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] and not [name_f]Line[/name_f].)

Oh my only caution though is that she might get mistaken for an [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] occasionally.

I think I like it. I’ve never seen [name_f]Emelyn[/name_f] before–the spelling threw me off–but it works. I’ve loved the name [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] for a while, but this is softer. [name_f]Love[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emme[/name_f]. It’s a winner  I’m a huge fan of the name [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], so I really think that you can’t go wrong with either. Maybe wait and see what she looks like before deciding fully on her name?

Sounds like you couldn’t decide between two popular names ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and [name_f]Emily[/name_f]) so you mashed them together.
