What Do You Think of The Name Jessica?

What do you think of the name [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]?

While I think it’s really dated, all the Jessica’s I know are really nice people. I grew up with a few of them (more Jennifers!) and currently work with one.
It’s a feel-good, pretty name.

I feel like it is dated to me, because there were a lot of Jessicas my age, but there’s a woman I follow on Instagram who has a newborn named [name_f]Jessica[/name_f].

Quite dated. That said, I know a spunky, absolutely spirited 5-year-old with the name (with [name_u]Jessie[/name_u] as a nickname) who’s making me like it much more.

It was in the top 5 girls names from 1977-1999, including several years in the #1 spot! I think the name really needs a rest, and this is the reason it feels dated. I absolutely love the Jessica’s I know, but would not use it or advise using it.
I have a friend named [name_f]Jessa[/name_f] which I think is a more refreshing alternative

I like it although I would be slightly surprised to see it on a baby but in a good way. I think it’s a nice name and I really like both [name_f]Jessi[/name_f] & [name_u]Jess[/name_u] as nicknames.

Excellent choice! This is a name that will truly stand out in this generation.

I really like it. I know that its big popularity spike in the 80’s-90’s makes it dated and a bit of a mom name for current kids but I haven’t actually met very many and think its really pretty so it doesn’t really feel that way to me.

I’m not really a fan tbh, there are a lot around my age and none of them have really been nice
I prefer [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f]

It’s the sort of name I would absolutely love if it hadn’t been so popular in my age group. It’s Shakespearean and very pretty, and I actually love [name_u]Jess[/name_u] and [name_u]Jessie[/name_u].

Unfortunately it’s been so overused and is permanently associated in my mind with annoying, simpering girls at primary school :smiling_face_with_tear: it’s like the millennial [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Debbie[/name_f].

Mind you, my brother once told me it’s his top choice for a future daughter

A solid name - feminine but a bit tomboyish, friendly but spikey. [name_u]Jessie[/name_u], [name_u]Jess[/name_u], [name_f]Jessa[/name_f], [name_f]Essie[/name_f] are nice nicknames

I am in love with it since I read [name_u]Dune[/name_u] lol! It is so sweet and reminds me of my favourites [name_f]Viveca[/name_f] amd [name_f]Lilika[/name_f]!

I’m pretty neutral on [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]! I can see the appeal, but it’s never been a favorite of mine and I definitely associate it with adult women rather than children these days. I really like [name_u]Jess[/name_u], [name_u]Jessie[/name_u], and [name_f]Jessa[/name_f]!

I do associate it with the 80s/90s era, since there was such a proliferation of Jessicas at that time. However, it’s still a perfectly fine name! And the nickname [name_u]Jess[/name_u] is cute, too.
Another great association for me is [name_f]Lady[/name_f] [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] from [name_u]Dune[/name_u] - such a wonderful, strong character! Given the recent movie adaptation, I wonder whether the name might experience a bit of a revival?

Overdone 80s. Not ready for a comeback until Jessica becomes a grandma! That being said, it’s a pretty name. Veronica and Monica have the same suffix but are a bit less tied to a particular decade.

It’s your brother’s top choice because he had a crush on a girl named [name_f]Jessica[/name_f]. What boy didn’t?!

Hahaha it’s possible!! Although I think he said he got it from studying Merchant of Venice in year nine :joy:

i think it’s a decent name, but it does feel a bit dated. not overly dated, though, i wouldn’t be super shocked if i met a young jessica. it also makes me think of jessica day from new girl, one of my favorite shows! all around it’s a good name

A lovely name, Shakespearean, also makes me think of this (beautiful) piece of music:

It’s pretty. I can understand why people would feel it’s dated due to 80s / 90s spike in popularity (I believe it was #1 for a number of years), however I feel its use has been sufficiently consistent since (top 100 UK) to not feel solely tied to that period. I don’t necessarily think of it in ‘classic’ territory yet but I believe it definitely has the potential to become that. Plus the nicknames are sweet.
