Is it usable or is the “ack” ending sound too harsh?
Some accent pronounce [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] with a “lie - luck” pronunciation which I find to be so charming!

I think it’s cute and usable! I’ve never heard it with the luck ending but I think it’s adorable even ending in “ack”
I love it & definitely think it’s usable!
I think it’s lovely and usable. I pronounce it with emphasis on first syllable, and 2nd syllable is neither ack nor uck, more ehk or uhk - but not emphasised, if that makes sense. Its the common phonetic sound called ‘schwa’.
I pronounce it more like ly-lec and that really appeals to me but I’m less sure on the lack pn
I pronounce it lie-lack for sure with emphasis on the “lack” so I do think it’s kind of harsh as a name. Some very similar options that I prefer as a name are [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_u]Laurel[/name_u], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
It’s a sweet name! but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is so popular where I live and they sound quite similar the way I pronounce them
I’m utterly obsessed with [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] at the moment. I met a little girl called [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] (with a big sister named A.lthea which is a darling pair!) and it made me fall in love.
I really enjoy the abrupt consonant ending, to me it adds a snappy flair to the flowy, genteel ly-la sound, and helps [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] stand apart from Laila/Layla/Lila/Leah and co.
I would expect it to rise in popularity in the next few years though because it’s got all the right elements for a tendy name these days!
I’m from Aotearoa/nz and I pronounce it lie-luck
I think it’s pretty and interesting and I’m amazed it’s not more popular given the popularity of Lil names and botanical names generally.
And I do pronounce it LIE-luck!
Editing to say that I fully agree with this!
I quite like it! My grandparents’ cat is named Lilac, which I think is super cute.
I really like it! [name_f]My[/name_f] family pronounces it “li-lock” if you want to add some more random. It’s a regional thing. Is “li-luck” kind of British? I noticed they pronounced it that way in [name_f]My[/name_f] Fair [name_f]Lady[/name_f].
It hit me after scrolling up through the comments that I have now met someone who pronounces the name with every vowel sound.
Li-lack (normal pronunciation)
Li-leck (here)
Li-lick (a friend of mine)
Li-lock (my family)
Li-luck (heard in a lot of [name_f]English[/name_f] films)
You’ve now partially convinced me to use this name.
I really like it!
In my (US) accent I defined say lie-LACK but I still like the sound and imagery of it.
Lilas—pronounced Lee-la (silent s) is the [name_u]French[/name_u] name for the flower, and I’ve heard that used in [name_f]France[/name_f], but never yet met a [name_f]Lilac[/name_f].
I’d say “Lie-lack” or “Lie-lick” and while I find [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] stunning, the confusing pronunciation dissuades me unfortunately.
Lila’s a very similar alternative
LOVE [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]! It’s actually on my small shortlist if we have a girl so, personally, I think it’s completely usable. I really like the hard consonant ending, and I agree with others that it sets it apart from other liquidy [name_f]Lil[/name_f] names for this reason. It’s quite a unique ending actually, only names [name_f]Anouk[/name_f] and [name_f]Pipaluk[/name_f] spring to mind!
I say lie-lack. It has such a lovely feel and look, but I find it a bit hard to pronounce
I think [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is lovely she feels wholesome and has this homespun vintage sound. So inviting with such strong cottage core imagery. I pronounce [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] as lie-luck I think that’s the Southern/Midlands pronunciation for us [name_f]English[/name_f] people
I adore [name_f]Lilac[/name_f], and think it’s very underrated. It’s sweet, and soft, but fun and feisty too. I say it as LIE-luk, with the ‘u’ like in under or utter. Definitely nothing lacking there haha.
[name_f]Lilac[/name_f] is a name I think is lovely and very useable! I love it!
