We’re expecting a boy in april and still haven’t found a name for him yet.
We both really like the name [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. But because it is quite uncommon we don’t really know what to think of it in general. Like is it too out there? Too feminine?
So I was wondering what you associate with the name [name_f]Maven[/name_f]?
And also if you have any names like [name_f]Maven[/name_f], please comment them below!
I really like it! I did think of a girl at first, until I remembered I was in the boy section. I’ve only heard of it being used for girl so far, so that’s where my thoughts go - however, I think it’d be splendid on a boy! It takes only one thought adjustment, and people will get used to it.
I would assume that [name_f]Maven[/name_f] is a girl. Sorry, but I would keep looking as it may feel to many like it could work for a boy, but not all boys would be comfortable wearing it and you probably don’t want to cause him to be embarrassed of his name. He may really hate it, especially as it reads feminine, on paper, when it is likely to be assumed that he is a female (school announcements/class lists, medical offices, etc.). I know a young man named [name_m]Jevon[/name_m] and maybe that appeals to you?
I quite like it. It’s unisex to me, since the sound isn’t particularly soft and it has a cool connotation. [name_u]Unique[/name_u] and current without being made up. Easy to say, easy to spell.
It’s true I’ve only heard of it used on girls, so that may be my first assumption. The sound is similar to girls names like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Megan[/name_f], but it’s also similar to [name_m]Kevin[/name_m] and [name_m]Maverick[/name_m]. However, [name_f]Maven[/name_f] doesn’t even rank in the top 1000, so I can’t see constant mix ups. And frankly, I’m not sure how familiar most people will even be with it as a name to make a gender assumption.
I like it, though it does come off a little feminine. I do know a guy named [name_u]Haven[/name_u]. [name_f]Maven[/name_f] can mean a person who is exceptionally skilled at something, so a pretty unisex meaning.
It definitely is feminine to me, especially due to its similarity to [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u], both strongly in the girl camp. Sorry
I actually don’t think it would be too terrible for a boy. There aren’t really any babies, girls or boys, named [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. Most people outside Nameberry will have never heard the name and have no clue it’s a traditionally female name. It doesn’t actually sound that feminine, and could easily be unisex.
I think it absolutely works. So often we see names cross over from the boy’s camp to the girl’s camp but not the other way around, and [name_f]Maven[/name_f] is absolutely a name that can work quite easily as gender neutral. It’s meaning doesn’t have any particularly gendered aspect (someone mentioned the whole fashion maven thing but honestly terminology like that isn’t even that common in industry anymore), and the sound doesn’t read hyper feminine either.
My husband and I have decided to go with [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. As a back up we want to give him a second name which he would be able to use if he decides that he doesn’t like his name. We don’t want top 20 names but also not too unusual names. We do want his second name to fit with his first. Any suggestions?
Also the following names are out of question because of friends/family:
I like names like [name_u]Finn[/name_u], [name_m]Ian[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and my husband likes names like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_m]Daniel[/name_m].
I love the name [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_f]Maven[/name_f] is quite pretty as well but I wouldn’t say it’s even a little bit unisex… Ofcourse its up to you but I would consider using a name thats more traditionally male or unisex
[name_f]Maven[/name_f] means “an expert or connoisseur”
I definitely think of it as a girl’s name. I even know a baby girl (via social media lol) with the name [name_f]Maven[/name_f]. To me, it’s too similar to [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]/[name_u]Raven[/name_u]/[name_f]Megan[/name_f]/[name_u]Haven[/name_u]/etc.
