I’m a big fan of [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], I think it has a lovely vintage charm- it gives me a gentle, sweet vibe.
It’s on our list as a first name- I do think a lot of people don’t see the charm though and still see it is as quite old-fashioned and eccentric!

I’m not sure if it goes with the other names, does seem a bit clunky and it doesn’t flow smoothly- but it’s a beautiful name and if you love it, use it!

Second middle name spot is a good place for it.

It’s funny because I was thinking of using [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] in one of my posts . I think it’s sort of in the stage of viewed as old fashioned but not so much in a retro style way. I think it’s pretty and more stylish than it gets credit for.

Only reason I like it is The Office.

So sweet!! I think of the little girl from The Railway Children, so she’s sort of :steam_locomotive::socks: :lady_beetle::basket:
Cozy, vintage, late summer/early autumn, farmhouse rustic, but stylish too. [name_f]Love[/name_f]!

I’m not a fan, unfortunately. To me it sounds like an old-lady but not in the vintage, charming way – more in the way that names like [name_f]Bertha[/name_f] & [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] are seen (although I love [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]) and it does make me think of “syphilis” immediately. That said, I think it works absolutely fine as a middle name! [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] has a really nice flow. I’d assume it was an honour name, rather than a name the parent(s) liked.

I immediately think of the Office. Doesn’t seem ready for revival as a first, but I quite like it for a middle!

Like @tallemaja, I see it as vintage in a not very lovely way
it’s not really my thing. It reminds me of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (which I love), so I feel like I should
but it doesn’t feel ready for revival for me for a long time. Maybe it’s the spelling? But it’s a fine name in general, just not my thing, and I think [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] sounds just lovely.

Good luck!

@Anniepaige_xo honestly I’m really undecided on [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] but it’s an important namesake so I wanted to see what others thought on the name. It’s lovely to receive positive feedback.

@Casea33 we are singing from the same hymn sheet

@spring_rain honestly [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] has never been on my radar but the name is really important namesake so it’s nice to see others seeing [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] in a positive light I like that you can see the name as stylish.

@Victory55 I need to watch the office asap :joy:

@OctaviaMay oh my gosh love the imagery this is making me appreciate the name so thank you :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

@tallemaja gosh yes I hear the syphilis too :woman_facepalming:t3: which is so unfortunate as the connotation is so awful yet the namesake is so special. Thank you for your kindness of the flow with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Christabel[/name_f]

@rosajune i agree middle name spot it does work

@ashthedreamer honestly I’m on that wavelength too!

I adore Phyllis!! :yellow_heart: She really is such an underused gem, and I adore her earthy meaning and that she has a tie to mythos! If you like Phyllis, I would like to suggest Phyllida to you! :herb: I think that she is just a tad bit more elegant than Phyllis, whilst still retaining Phyllis’s vintage charm and slight eccentricity (in a good way, of course)! Have a lovely day!! :sunny:

Edit: My apologies, I forgot to add that I simply adore Rose Christabel Phyllis!! How sweet!! :rose:

@mellona ahhh thank you! It’s lovely to receive positivity and pretty imagery. With [name_f]Phyllida[/name_f] how would you pronounce this name? I do love ‘a’ ending names so I think maybe it would appeal to me. Thank you for positivity about the overall combination.

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought is syphilis. Middle spot is good.

I’m really happy that we are talking about [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f], she’s been on my mind! I think it’s a lovely name and I’d love it if there was a [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] revival. [name_f]My[/name_f] only reservation is the issue brought up by @tallemaja :sob: I also keep thinking about Philomena

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] is a really sparkly name! I think I’d try to tweak one name to remove one S or Z sound, but honouring always wins out over flow when it comes to actually naming someone (which I hear you on not being the case atm).

[name_f]Phyllida[/name_f] is pronounced as either FIL-i-də or fil-EE-də, to the best of my knowledge! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: I think “Liddie/Liddy” (if you are going with the former pronunciation) would be a darling nickname, for what it is worth! :yellow_heart:

@PRSing yes I also think that too unfortunately :woman_facepalming:t3:

@EdgeOfTheMeadow thank you for the response honestly I feel it’s always fun to have conversation about names that rarely spoken about like [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] would be a fun name to revive very surprising but I do get that association @tallemaja brought up :woman_facepalming:t3:
I do prefer [name_f]Philomena[/name_f]! Honestly I love [name_f]Philomena[/name_f] (Filomena is in my family tree) such a pretty name. Also agree that honouring relatives is more important than flow when it comes to naming babies IRL but that isn’t on my radar.

@mellona thank you for advising of the pronunciation Liddy is adorable

[name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] would be prettier, but I love [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f]

[name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] feels sort of clunky-grandma-style, with with a bit of sturdy toughness, and a bit of independent spirit too - I think that comes from its similarity in sound to Fliss

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_f]Christabel[/name_f] [name_f]Phyllis[/name_f] has quite a poetic, modern-classic-novel feel about it

Likewise, I didn’t want to be the first to mention this so I’m glad I’m not the only one - but yes definitely better in the middle spot.

That aside, I like the look of the name but it is very old-fashioned.

I like the suggestion of [name_f]Phyllida[/name_f]!
