What do you think of the name Zev?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all!

We are expecting a boy in [name_u]March[/name_u], we already have a beautiful girl of almost two, her name is [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. We had a difficult time coming up with names this time, mostly because hubby is canadian and I am dutch, we both want a name that is pronounced more or less the same in both English and Dutch.

We really like the name [name_m]Zev[/name_m], what do you think about it?

Other names we like are:
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_m]Noam[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] (but the Dutch would say mee-lo)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] (the dutch would say lay-o)
[name_u]Roan[/name_u]

Thanks in advance for your help!

I like [name_m]Zev[/name_m], it’s unusual, short and sweet, but it feels like more of a nn than a full name.

You could use [name_m]Zev[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Zevadiah[/name_m], or maybe [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]/[name_m]Zephyrin[/name_m]?

From your list I like [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] best.

I like [name_m]Zev[/name_m], but it’s a bit nicknamey. Since you like [name_m]Zev[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m], how do you feel about [name_m]Lev[/name_m]? You could use it as a nickname for [name_m]Levi[/name_m].

[name_m]Zev[/name_m] isn’t nickname-y, it’s just short. I really like it.

[name_m]Lev[/name_m] and [name_m]Levi[/name_m] don’t have the same vowel sounds so I don’t get using one as short for the other. [name_u]Lee[/name_u] for [name_m]Levi[/name_m] makes more sense?

I like [name_m]Leon[/name_m] more than [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but don’t know if it’s used in Dutch?

I really like [name_m]Noam[/name_m] but a lot of English speakers say it one-syllable like “gnome” and I really prefer no-AHM.

I really like [name_m]Zev[/name_m] actually. Super easy to spell and pronounce, so you’ll never get problems with that. I don’t think it’s nickname-y either because it’s so strong.

I feel like [name_m]Zev[/name_m] sounds like a nickname - if I met someone with this name I would probably ask what it’s short for. I like [name_u]Roan[/name_u], though I prefer the spelling [name_u]Rohan[/name_u] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]… unless you were after the color pronunciation of course!

I’ve seen [name_m]Zev[/name_m] suggested on other threads and it was never a name i got behind. I like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] best from your list.

[name_m]Zephaniah[/name_m] could be the full name for the nickname [name_m]Zev[/name_m]. Zephan could be a full name itself. I think I prefer one of the longer names with the nn [name_m]Zev[/name_m] if I were to use [name_m]Zev[/name_m].
[name_m]Steven[/name_m] could also be the full name for [name_m]Zev[/name_m].
[name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_m]Zander[/name_m] or [name_m]Zavier[/name_m] could be options. Also [name_m]Xavier[/name_m].

I love [name_m]Zev[/name_m]! I really like it with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], too.

[name_m]Zev[/name_m] is a beautiful hebrew name. [name_m]Zev[/name_m] is a given name. [name_m]Zev[/name_m] or Ze’ev is a Hebrew first name, meaning “wolf”. [name_m]Zev[/name_m] can also be short for the Hebrew name [name_m]Zevulun[/name_m], meaning “to honor” or “to exalt.” I think it is a great strong name for a baby boy.

My nephew was just named [name_m]Ziv[/name_m] (sounds like leave). I think its a great name!

I like [name_m]Zev[/name_m]. Go for it!
