What do you think of these 'made up' names?

OK, usually I am NOT a fan when people make up baby names. However, I just came across these two, for lack of a better term, ‘hybrid’ names.

Are they OK or dumb?

Maevery ([name_f]Mae[/name_f] + [name_u]Avery[/name_u])

Anavieve ([name_f]Anna[/name_f] + [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f])

Be honest, I can take it

Anavieve is actually pretty cute. I love most forms of the name [name_f]Anne[/name_f], and this is no exception. Plus, if she who bears this name thinks it’s too weird, she could go by [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f] for short.

I’m not really a fan of Maevery. Maybe that’s just because I don’t really like the names [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u], though.

I wouldn’t say they’re dumb, I just think the names put together are less than the sum of their parts, so to speak. Of the two, I like Anavieve better, I don’t really like anything about Maevery. Annavieve has a pleasant aura about it, as it combines the softness and sweetness of [name_f]Anna[/name_f] with the vigor of [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f].

They’re not dumb, I’d say Maevery is silly though. Anavieve (I’d spell it Annavieve, it just looks awkward with one n for me) is actually real sweet and I think I saw it in another berry’s signature once.

Annevieve is the spelling I can’t get past, and it’s lovely. I usually steer clear of made-up names also, but Annevieve and Lilivere are two I can’t shake. They’re currently on the part of my list that I would only use as middle names, but if my future SO were on-board I would definitely go there!!

Maevery is a little contrived, the -ry only diminishes the clear beauty of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and makes her seem like a trendy combination of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. I think Anavieve (or Annevieve) works better because she’s not mimicking other trendy made-up names. The “make-it-longer-and-add-a-Y” thing is done a lot, and Maevery just seems like another iteration of that. Anavieve seems more purposeful and considered and I would be very intrigued to meet one! ^^

I think Anavieve is pretty. Definitely not a fan of Maevery.

I actually think Maevery is really cute! It literally just sounds like “[name_u]Avery[/name_u]” with an M in front of it–super easy to adjust to. I think I like it more than [name_u]Avery[/name_u], actually.

Anavieve seems like a farther stretch for me. I don’t like it as much, but I think it could work.

The spelling Annevieve would get a thumbs up from me. I’ve seen it around enough times that doesn’t feel made up anymore. Unfortunately, Maevery is a flop. That being said, maybe [name_f]Mabry[/name_f] would appeal to you?

Dude, I’ve been crushing on Annevieve ever since I first heard it!!! To me it doesn’t even feel made up, because it is more than just the sum of it’s parts. As much as I like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f], I like Annevieve even more! I can’t even tell you how excited I would be to meet a little Annevieve someday. Maevery, on the other hand, just feels like a made up version of [name_u]Avery[/name_u] to me. I didn’t even think of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] at first, because I don’t actually know anyone with that name, whereas I know lots of [name_u]Avery[/name_u]'s. I think that sometimes invented names really hit the mark, such as [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] or [name_f]Nerissa[/name_f]. Other times, they really miss, like [name_f]Renesmee[/name_f] (no offense if anyone does like that name, it just doesn’t do it for me, personally). I think Annevieve and Maevery are two really great examples of how made up names can either work, or not.

Maevery ----> [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], anyone?

I actually really like Annavieve (but would prefer 2 ns). I think this works because [name_f]Anna[/name_f] already has a lot of long form names, so Annavieve doesn’t sound made up. ([name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], etc).

Maevery sounds and looks kind of silly to me. I just dont think it works because [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] are such different styles (one classic/old lady and one unisex/trendy).

I do actually really like Annavieve though, I would say it is probably my favorite long form/hybrid “[name_f]Anna[/name_f]” name.

I actually really like Anavieve. I prefer the Anavieve spelling to Annavieve, but since I prefer the first two syllables to be pronounced ann-uh rather than aw-nuh ([name_f]Anna[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Ana[/name_f]) I would choose Annavieve to sidestep that pronunciation issue.

Maevery I am not fond of. The sound is alright, even though I am not terribly fond of either [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] or [name_u]Avery[/name_u], but I think pronunciation would be an issue. Without knowing that Maevery is a combination of [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] I think people would see MaEVERY and try to pronounce -every like the word, ending up with something like muh-ev-er-y. Not pretty.
