What do you think of these names?

I’m expecting my first baby and I don’t know the sex yet.

However we have two names picked out but I wanted some opinions.

If it’s a boy, we both like [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] - my partner’s family are Scottish (his Dad’s side) and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is a Scottish name.

If it’s a girl, we’re decided on [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I’m worried it’s too nicknamey, but part of the reason I’ve chosen it (apart from the fact it’s really cute) is because my Mother’s name is [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and it’s a variant of that.

I’m concerned what my in laws will think of our choices as they’ve already mentioned we should chose a classic, enduring name.

I love [name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m], it’s a beautiful combination and classic.
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Polly[/name_f] though. Like you mentioned, it seems a bit nicknamey

I really like both [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. Great choices!

[name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] are both great!
I think [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is far more ‘nickname-y’ than [name_f]Polly[/name_f], and if you’re happy with [name_m]Archie[/name_m] there’s not reason to worry about [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. Especially as she’ll likely go to school with little girls named [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f].

[name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] is lovely, but I’m not a fan of [name_f]Polly[/name_f]. However if [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Holly[/name_f] can work, why can’t [name_f]Polly[/name_f]?

I feel like these both have a classic feel about them, and at the end of they day this is your baby to name. If you love these names, use them!

I like both names and you shouldn’t worry about [name_f]Polly[/name_f] being nicknamey since [name_m]Archie[/name_m] is a nn too.

I like [name_m]Archie[/name_m] a lot. I’m neutral on [name_f]Polly[/name_f], I much prefer [name_f]Molly[/name_f] or [name_f]Holly[/name_f]. Together though the names scream Riverdale to me, especially [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] since [name_f]Polly[/name_f] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] are sisters (and [name_m]Archie[/name_m] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f] are main characters). Not a dealbreaker but riverdale was the first thing I thought of when I saw the names, before I realized they were two nickname names.

[name_m]Archie[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are lovely! They have a nice vintage charm to them and I don’t think they’re too nicknamey. I’ve met so many little Rosies, Alfies, Teddys and Evies, I don’t think it’s an issue

First- ignore your in-laws advice, choose names you love, and don’t share your choices ahead of time!

Second, I like both options! [name_f]Polly[/name_f] isn’t something I would choose myself, but as an [name_u]Abby[/name_u] with a daughter named [name_f]Betsy[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is just fine as a full first name [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Ditto to the pp who said if [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] are proper first names, why not [name_f]Polly[/name_f]!?

I adore [name_m]Archie[/name_m]! It’s been on our long list for awhile. Great choice!
