Our son (Warren Patrick) is 14 months old.
[name_f]My[/name_f] cycle still hasn’t returned, but we are ready to try for number two when it finally does.
Last night my husband was being nit picky about word choose and, being a smarta$$, I said, “Alright, Mr. Merriam Webster.”
Then I thought that was actually a cute boy’s name and asked my husband if he thought so and he actually agreed- we had very different ideas with our first son.
Now I can’t get it out of my head that if we ever have another son [name_m]Webster[/name_m] might be a cute sibling name for [name_m]Warren[/name_m]?
I wasn’t even thinking about it at the time, but I just realized that my husband’s stepdad’s surname is [name_m]Webb[/name_m]. Part of me thinks that would make it even better because he doesn’t have any biological children and our son’s [name_m]Warren[/name_m] name was a nod to my Paternal grandfather, so they could both carry family ties. But then part of me thinks that might be weird if his last name is [name_m]Webb[/name_m] and a baby ended up being called [name_m]Webb[/name_m] as a nickname?
A lot of speculation from someone who isn’t even pregnant.
But I wondered what nameberry folks would think of [name_m]Webster[/name_m].
[name_u]Or[/name_u], if you think it would be better as a middle name, I would love to hear any names you think would flow well for [name_m]Webster[/name_m] as a middle.
Thanks!
I had a guinea pig called [name_m]Webster[/name_m] I find it a very warm and charming name - a bit clunky cute like [name_m]Wilbur[/name_m], but with the surnamey style of [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] or [name_u]Parker[/name_u]. A very cool name
It seems like it creates a lovely family tie for you, and what a sweet name origin story if you’re on the fence about the nickname it would make a lovely middle, and that way you avoid repeated initials too.
I actually quite like [name_m]Webster[/name_m]! What an unexpected, yet at the same time familiar feeling name. And the nickname [name_m]Web[/name_m] and family connections are just so sweet, and completely sell me. It goes perfectly with big brother [name_m]Warren[/name_m]!
As for it being potentially odd if he went by Web/Webb as a nickname, I don’t imagine it would be much of an issue. [name_f]My[/name_f] brother is named my mother’s surname before marriage, and it has never been strange for my maternal grandparents to call him by that. I know that’s a fairly common thing in the southern US as well.
Originally, I’ll say I was unsure. But after reading your post… how great a name for you. You’ve sold me.
[name_m]Warren[/name_m] is such a cozy, bookish, and stodgy (in a great way) “old-man” name—and Webester checks all the same boxes. The familial connection as well as the W tie-in with [name_m]Warren[/name_m] is really lovely. Plus, you’ve both agreed on it!? Astonishing, all the way ‘round. I like it a lot for you.
