My husband has suggested then “never mind”-ed [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] based on what he considers to be a less than ideal fit for what any future biological daughters will probably look like (yes, I’m amazed he can predict this as well). He thinks certain names don’t work with fair skin, blonde hair, etc.
That especially confuses me as if anything, the name conjures a fair-complected European girl for me. Plus, my daughter [name_u]Bay[/name_u]'s given name is after a (male) black civil rights activist so it’s not like hers really fits her appearance anyway either.
What would you expect a [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] to look like?
tight blonde curls, and massive dimples, with deep green eyes, and a sense of adventure. I picture a little girl who looks like [name_f]Shirley[/name_f] [name_u]Temple[/name_u].
For me personally a [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] has dark hair in two braids and dark eyes. . . actually the name conjures up an image of [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] Addams to me.
I also see a darker child in [name_f]Millicent[/name_f]. Not necessarily dark coloring, maybe a serious little blonde with large wordly eyes: like this
First, [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] - my only experience with the name comes from [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], so my image of a [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] isn’t very flattering regardless of her coloring.
Second, like your husband, there are some names I just can’t see on a child with dark coloring, hair, and eyes and names I can’t imagine fitting a child with lighter features. Making matters especially difficult is the particular mix of features my husband and I have; it will be extremely difficult to predict what our children will look like. For many people, though, it’s pretty easy. If you and your husband are similar in hair color, eye color, etc., there’s a good chance your children will share those traits as well. You could get a recessive gene outlier, of course, but you can probably make pretty sound predictions.
If your husband can really only see [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] on a darker-featured child, perhaps he would be willing to keep it on the list (waiting to meet the child before choosing a final name).
Interesting replies, thank you all. My daughter is fair-skinned (but tans in the summer) with dark blonde hair and blue eyes. He has brown hair and darker hazel eyes and I am blonde/ fair/ blue-eyed so I suppose we can’t really predict much on that front. I guess I might have to put [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] on the “maybe/ if our other names don’t seem to fit” list.
