What does everyone think about

A name that I recently stumbled over: Casimira/[name]Kasmira[/name].
Spelled Casimira, it’s the feminine of [name]Casimir[/name], a royal Polish name meaning “announcing peace”, and spelled [name]Kasmira[/name], it’s a variation of the Sanskrit place name [name]Kashmir[/name].
I’m curious if it would bother people that this name sounds a little like “cashmere”? I think it has a very exotic and melodic sound to it; unusual without being all that weird.

I prefer the spelling with a C. In general, I prefer the C spelling to the K spelling, when either would be appropriate. I also prefer the meaning with the C spelling.
I think the name Casimira is quite nice. I do NOT think of cashmere, although it does sound quite exotic to me – similar in style to names like Shaherezad, Rapunzel, or [name]Ariadne[/name]. I guess it’s almost like a fairytale name to me

It does make me think of cashmere, but I don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing - in a way, it kind of makes the name sound warm and luxurious. In fact, I immediately thought of pairing it with the middle name [name]Autumn[/name]. I like the Casimira spelling (esp. in light of the meaning you wrote about) and I love the nickname [name]Mira[/name] (though I do not like the nickname [name]Kassie[/name]).
[name]Just[/name] wondering though - it’s still pronounced with 3 syllables same as [name]Kasmira[/name], even though Casimira looks like it might be pronounced cas-I-mir-a (4 syllables). I don’t like that pronunciation as much, and I’m wondering if it could be spelled Casmira (without that extra i), and then I wonder if maybe it’s best to be safe and stick with [name]Kasmira[/name].

Exactly what I think! It sounds like a princess story waiting to happen.

Personally, I just pronounce them kazz-MEER-ah, whichever way it’s spelled, although I’m sure the 4 syllables work, too. Actually, I’m not sure what the “appropriate” pronounciation is. It’s so unused that it probably wouldn’t matter, anyway–people would just go with whatever you told them.

I assumed you were going with the kazz-MEER-ah pronunciation, which is very pretty. I just think that even though the Casimira spelling looks nicest and has the nicest meaning, that you should consider pronunciation problems, which seem to be more likely to arise with this spelling than with the [name]Kasmira[/name] spelling, where pronunciation is obvious.

[name]Kasmira[/name] is very pretty.

I think this name is absolutely lovely. i haven’t thought about Casimira often at all, but it’s definitely growing on me. I think I prefer it with the C spelling-- it’s somehow softer (kind of like cashmere, I guess!). I also like the masculine version of [name]Casimir[/name] a lot.

Hmm, I guess my response could be considered biased since my name IS Casimira, but I like my name spelled with a c". People are always telling me they like my name and that it is beautiful and elegant. People often find it hard to pronounce so I go by [name_u]Casey[/name_u] (literally like kc as in kc and the sunshine band (my 5th grade teacher used to make little jokes like that :D)), however, it is originally pronounced as “cashmere + ah” (but roll the r) so people usually wind up telling me it reminds them of cashmere but that’s alright because I take it as a compliment!

[name_m]Little[/name_m] side note: If you haven’t, you should research saint [name_m]Casmir[/name_m], I took him as my confirmation saint and had to research him. He was a very interesting man and I am very proud to be named after him.

I like Casimira. I can picture a baby Casimira nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mira[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is Casmira. I’ve been complimented on it all my life. It’s also been butchered all my life lol. I’ve heard/seen it all.
