I’ve been digging the name [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] for a while now, and since you berries are so creative, I was wondering what kind of person you envision when you hear the name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you picture it on a toddler, child, teenager, adult? Straight sandy hair with freckles, dark curly hair and brown eyes? Splashing in a puddle, curled up in a chair reading, playing bass in a rock band?
I would love to hear your thoughts! And if you have more than one idea of a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], I would be more than happy to read them all!
I see someone between my age and a baby (its been top 10 in Aus since then) but i know so many I see them I know two 15 year olds ones Lachy the others Lachie and a six year old [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m]. I personally hate the name it makes no sense how does that spell lock-lan and some people say it Lack-lan which annoys the hell out of me and its been popular for tooo long here.
I know a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] about 10 years old with curly strawberry-blond hair, pale skin, and freckles. A very outgoing, active kid; very talented at soccer. To me, he is the epitome of a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] will be the name of our son one day if we have one, it’s basically unheard of as a name where I live, I think only 18 of them were born last year. When I picture [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], I picture a 3/4 year old boy, with a mischievous grin, dirty blonde to brown hair, with green eyes and a smattering of small freckles across this cheeks. He is very curious about everything, and loves to talk about what he sees. Definitely more of a bookworm than an athlete.
Hmm… I picture a curly-blonde haired boy of about five years old who is quite smart and outgoing. He has very mischievous eyes, and likes to play tricks on his older peers. I love the name [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] : )
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is my water baby. He laughs and flirts and flashes his dimples to get out of trouble. Playful, an otter or a dolphin. He runs rather than walks. The sun is warm, the grass is green, but the water is so cold he shrieks when he jumps in. Deep, deep, deep. There are layers beneath the child-like surface. He’s mercurial, entertaining you one moment, and the next diving down to the bottom of the lake, where he indulges his other side, his solitary side. He drifts beneath the water, the sun and the sky a shimmery haze, all sound distant and soft. His adventures there are his own. He’ll resurface though, and be ready for his next bit of mischief and fun.
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] the name [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]! I would love to use it, but it would make no sense to my Greek family. So I have used it for a character (who is currently on hiatus). The character I have created has dark auburn hair, almost brown, green/gray eyes (which now that I think about it is ironic because his middle name is [name_u]Gray[/name_u]), he’s in his senior year of high school. He’s fairly tall, lean muscled. He’s British but moves away to live with his father and brother (who is named [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]) in the USA. He’s handsome and somewhat outgoing, loves to read and play soccer, photography and cooking (or eating the cooked food). A people person and generally a nice kid. So that’s what I think based on my character (oh how I love his name!!!).
I knew a [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] that was probably mid-thirties, fairly overweight and a scraggly beard! Haha not exactly prime, but I guess that’s real life for you. He was very friendly though, and seemed to get along with everyone quite easily.
In my mind [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is a romantic name. I love Lach as a nickname. It belongs to a good-looking guy in his twenties. He’s into music, plays piano/guitar, has dark hair and a sexy mysterious quality about him. You’d find him in bars checking out his favorite bands, or maybe hanging out with a couple friends somewhere. He’s friendly, but kind of quiet.
[name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is entirely different. He might be kind of a trouble-maker, the same dark hair, full of laughter and life. He’s quite out-going and loves playing outdoors, always active in some way. He still loves music. I don’t know why, [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] just seems like a musical person to me, in all of the different ways I can picture him.
I know too many Lachlans so I just think of what they all look like. Although [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is very popular (inside the top 10) here in Australia all the Lachlans I know are 15 years or older. [name_f]One[/name_f] weird thing is they all have blonde or light brown hair!
[name_f]One[/name_f] of my brothers (who is 21) was nearly named [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Dale[/name_u] but my parents ended up switching it around so he’s name is [name_u]Dale[/name_u] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]… He also has blondish brown hair, lol.
I think it’s a great name. I can picture a baby, a young child, a teenager and it would also suit an adult (one that works in an office during the day but rocks out in the weekend). [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry, it’s a great name!!
I guess I should have clarified in my original post. I do know about [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]'s popularity in Australia, but seeing as how we’re halfway around the world and I doubt that a son of mine would end up living there (I’ve read that Australia has some of the strictest immigration laws of any country), it’s somewhat of a non-issue for me.
I find it really interesting that a lot of you picture a lighter-haired boy. I kind of thought that everyone would expect to see a dark haired boy when they heard the name [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], but obviously that’s not the case. I can easily see a toddler/child [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and an adult [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m], but I struggle more trying to visualize an infant or teenage [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]. Anybody have more ideas about those?
@ebenezer.scrouge: The pronunciation of [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] actually makes perfect sense. It was originally the Scottish name for someone from Norway, which they called “land of the lochs,” loch being pronounced lock, thus [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m] or [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m].
I know what it means but I have seen comments on Behind the name and other sites saying “it should be pronounced Lack-lan” i have always pronounced it that way. Like [name_f]Lockie[/name_f] and Lachy are pronounced the same.
