I’m watching a tv programme featuring an older lady called Notty[name_f][/name_f], and I’m fascinated by what it might be short for!
[name_f][/name_f]If you were going to pick a long name for it, what would you choose?

First one that came to mind was [name_f]Mignonette[/name_f]! Also [name_f]Antoinette[/name_f] could be one.
First that came to my mind was [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Natasha[/name_f], id have to think longer on how to incorporate the O
[name_f]My[/name_f] first (and so far only) idea is the obscure medieval name Notburga
[name_f]My[/name_f] guess is that it could be a nickname unrelated to her name.
[name_f][/name_f]Alternatively someone who didn’t like the shortened version of her full name [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], and was adament that she was ‘Dorothy not Dotty’ / ‘Charlotte not Lottie’. Which eventually earned the nickname Notty!
[name_f][/name_f]Could also be a shortening for [name_f]Nicole[/name_f], [name_m]Nichola[/name_m], [name_f]Antonia[/name_f], or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?
@GU1[name_f][/name_f] love both those ideas!
[name_f][/name_f]@GustyLeaves[name_f][/name_f] ooh yes, I can see [name_m]Natty[/name_m] → Notty
[name_f][/name_f]@Wandarine[name_f][/name_f] Notburga!! what a fantastic old name ![]()
@Shits_Giggles[name_f][/name_f] yeah, I agree it’s likely unrelated [name_f][/name_f]- could even be short for a surname. [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother in law was a nurse and goes exclusively by a shortening of her surname. [name_f]Antonia[/name_f] is a good bet, too. But I love the idea of ‘not[name_f][/name_f] Lottie/Dottie’! [name_m]Genius[/name_m]!
How about [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]? [name_f]Nolita[/name_f]? Nora-Kate? I might go with something a little stretchy like, [name_f]Norma[/name_f] ‘Notty’.
Ooh, maybe [name_f]Annot[/name_f], a medieval diminutive of [name_f]Ann[/name_f]?
[name_f]Noretta[/name_f]?
@kachenka[name_f][/name_f] love [name_f]Norma[/name_f] ‘Notty’!
[name_f][/name_f]@moonwriteen[name_f][/name_f] some amazing suggestions. She’d be about the right generation for [name_f]Noreen[/name_f] and [name_f]Norma[/name_f], but also very drawn to Honoria/Honora as an option.
[name_f][/name_f]@demoiselle[name_f][/name_f] ooh [name_f]Annot[/name_f] is nice, new to me!
[name_f][/name_f]@lucy_halo1[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Noretta[/name_f] would work!
Ooh interesting one!
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Anatolia[/name_f] came to mind, or [name_f]Antonella[/name_f]

I could see [name_f]Sonnet[/name_f] potentially having the nickname Notty. It’s most likely not her full name, but definitely a cute option if anyone was looking for a full name for Notty ![]()
[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought was [name_f]Nora[/name_f]!
