Hello,
I love this name but I have a pronunciation dilemma. On this site, it says it is pronounced Cah-riss, but in real life I know someone who pronounces it Care-iss. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know which way is proper? If not, then which do you say?
I say Cah-riss, but I can’t guarantee that this is the right pronunciation. Perhaps both are right?
CAH-riss - it’s Welsh name, but if someone who have this name pronounce it differently it’s two reason only:
- parents adjusted pr. to American ears
- parents were oblivious to correct pr & as well as the kid
Cah-riss to me (+ all the [name_f]Carys[/name_f]'s I’ve met). [name_f]Cerys[/name_f] would be Care-iss
However, I think it might be an accent thing? Kind of like [name_f]Clara[/name_f] ([name_u]Clair[/name_u]-uh/Clarr-uh)?
You can listen to how it’s pronounced in Welsh here:
In Welsh the sound CARE-iss would be spelt [name_f]Cerys[/name_f].
I would say Cah-riss.
I also say CAH-riss.
Thank you so much! Very helpful.
