For girls I’d say it has to be [name_f]Margot[/name_f] still. I keep coming back to it. It’s not too trendy, but it’s not outdated. It’s right in the middle.
For boys it would have to be [name_u]Arthur[/name_u], I just love the classic feel to it. And [name_u]Artie[/name_u] is such a cute nn, while [name_m]Thor[/name_m] could be such a cool nickname.
For me, it would be [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]. I can’t imagine a time where I didn’t love the name, it’s just so warm and beautiful. It’s the only name that has consistently been on my list without a break or change. I just adore it!
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] ‘Evie’ for a girl. It’s spunky and unique but with a familiar nickname. I first heard it on youtubers, [name_f]Tara[/name_f] and [name_f]Mandi[/name_f] [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] (Living Rosa) when they used it on one of their twin daughters. At first, I did not like it but slowly but surely it became a favorite and it’s currently in the lead.
Combo: [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] - still decided on a double or single mn - both [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f] are honoring.
[name_u]Archer[/name_u] ‘Archie’ for a boy. It’s strong but soft with an ‘Archie’ nickname. It also honors my late dad in different ways as he was a hunter and one of my most fondest memories is coming home from school and watching “All in The Family” where the father figure was named [name_m]Archie[/name_m] Bunker.
Combo: [name_u]Archer[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] or [name_u]Archer[/name_u] [name_u]David[/name_u] - same with the [name_u]Everett[/name_u] combo - [name_u]David[/name_u] and [name_m]Joel[/name_m] are honoring.
They’re not necessarily my top favorites (as in I currently like a few others more), but [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] have consistently been on my lists for 7 (?) years!
Mine is Margaret. I’ve loved her since I first got into names, plus it’s a family name. For a boy it’d have to be Nathaniel. Johnathan took over my #1 boys spot for a short while about half a year ago, but it was short-lived, and Nathaniel’s back
What a difficult question!! A lot of names come to mind: Caroline, Clementine, Margaret, Harvey, Toby, Maisie…
But I think I have to go with Wilbur! I’ve loved it for years and years now. I love how it’s a bit off-beat and dorky, and the nickname Will feels so friendly and cosy! The best of both worlds. And I find the Charlotte’s Web association to be really sweet; it was one of my favourite movies when I was a kid, and growing up I had a huge phase where I loved pigs and collected stuffed animal pigs like crazy!
[name_f]My[/name_f] number one would be [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. I already have a lo, and that name always seemed like a perfect fit! I’d say my seconds would be [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] or [name_u]Jasper[/name_u], which sound similar so I wouldn’t use them together. All these names are between modern/unisex and old-fashioned, and something that works well in Spanish and [name_f]English[/name_f]. Honestly, I imagine these names also just sound really cute on a little person irl!
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f], ever since I got into American [name_f]Girl[/name_f] as a kid I’ve loved this name. I love its uplifting meaning, several spunky nicknames, and vintage vibes.
it’s not currently my favorite name (betty is),
but it’s been consistently up there for years, since before i was even into names. i loved elizabeth for the longest time, but the softer, more whimsical vibes of elisabeth are much more appealing to me now. i love the endless supply of nicknames, the many inspiring literary namesakes, and the fact that it honors important people in my life.
Mine is Eucalypta. i can’t find anything i love as much, its a nature name, and very rare. I love how it is related to the eucalyptus tree, a tree native to australia and probably my favourite tree in australia. I’ve grown up around them and they’ve always been very meaningful to me. i really like the sound of the name too. I only discovered it last year but it’s been my favourite since then. eucalyptus means “well covered” and that just seems comforting and nice to me.
[name_f]My[/name_f] son’s name. It’s literary, straight to the point, strong but with a softness to it. And even though it’s rising in popularity, it doesn’t feel too overused (yet ).
for me it’s thomas it’s a family name and an honour name for me, it’s classic and familiar and it has such a cosy feel to it. i light up with joy every time i see it mentioned here or i hear the name in real life. it’s just one of those names that makes me so happy. it looks and sounds so perfect to me. i would absolutely love to have a son named thomas one day, and it’s been my favourite boy name since i can remember. i can’t imagine loving a name more than thomas.
and my favourite girl’s name would be evangeline it is a name that’s packed with so much meaning to me. the meaning ‘good news’ is spectacular and has ties to my [name_u]Christian[/name_u] faith, and my grandfather introduced me to the name originally which makes it so special for me to have my favourite girl’s name linked to such special memories with him. it also honours my two best friends and someone who is like a second mother to me. there’s just something so special about evangeline
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] has been my favorite for around 6 years; ever since I got into names it’s been at the top of my list! I really can’t remember exactly when I first heard it or if I loved it right away though Still, I never seem to get tired of it. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is so elegant and sweet, and the meaning is gorgeous. If I ever have a daughter I’d name her [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]!
For a girl, [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] and for a boy, [name_u]Solstice[/name_u]
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u] is definitely the longest standing name on my list, and one of the few I can actually see naming my future daughter. She’s so cuddly, warm and autumnal (in fact my [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] combo is [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] [name_u]October[/name_u] ). [name_u]Hazel[/name_u] also fits with so many names- she’s classic, natural and modern all at once. She fits with my current list (Phoebe, [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], Lilia) just as well as she fit with my old favorites (Stevie, [name_f]Tess[/name_f], Deedee)
[name_u]Solstice[/name_u] is the perfect kind of quirky. I genuinely fall more in love with this name each time I see it. I’ve always struggled with boy names but my [name_u]Sol[/name_u] feels so natural. I adore the soft gentle sound of [name_u]Solstice[/name_u] and the connection to the sky/sun is very important and beautiful to me I’m VERY protective of this name- hehe
and honorary mention to [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] my top name right now by leaps and bounds now but since she’s a newer love I can’t promise she’ll stick around
Since on nameberry I have loved and lost many names but the only one that has never left my list is Ivy.
If I were to have a daughter right now she would be called Ivy. It’s the only name that I won’t get bored of after a while. It’s popular but not overused and has a spunky vintage feel.
I’ve loved it for years. It’s ancient, elegant and distinctive, well-known but uncommon, and the nicknames ‘Hanna’ and ‘Hanni’, for a boy, are adorable. And, yes, I even love the cannibal reference as the tv show [name_m]Hannibal[/name_m] (played by [name_m]Mads[/name_m] Mikkelsen) is one of my favourites. Overall, I think it’s a heavy name but also a worthy one.
Apart from my children’s names, who weren’t necessarily my all time favorites, but they are now because they belong to my children…
Ísrún for a girl. It’s been my favorite for ages. It reminds me of home, cold winters and hot chocolate, playing in the snow, making things as cozy as possible at home because outside it’s dark all the time.
For a boy, I find it harder to pick one so I’ll go with a top three.
[name_m]Astrophel[/name_m] because it’s so dreamy, it sounds romantic without being cheesy. [name_m]Sindri[/name_m] because of its meaning “sparkling” and because it has a personal significance to me [name_m]Snær[/name_m] for all the same reasons as Ísrún
