I love [name_f]Elowen[/name_f], though I’m not as keen on [name_f]Nell[/name_f] as nickname for it, so I went with [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], which is beautiful and the Nell/Nellie nickname is unexpected, but intuitive.
Oh, I just love [name_f]Nellie[/name_f]! [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] is my favorite. It’s vintage & smart & feminine & adventurous. The only downside is the popularity. I like [name_f]Eleanora[/name_f] a lot too. Also, [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f] is a fun choice that you didn’t add.
I really like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] & [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] too. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] & [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] are both really lovely, just not my favorites for the [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] nn. They work…just not sure why it feels more natural from the others.
So many of these names are great! Close call, but I went with [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f].
I love Nell/Nellie as a nickname for names that have the sound somewhat hidden like [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] and [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f].
Maybe a bit more of a stretch, but I’d also use Nell/Nellie for a first name that ends in N with a middle beginning in [name_f]El[/name_f] or L, like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] or [name_u]Anne[/name_u] [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
This is a great list of options. I went with Noelle, nn - never thought of that before! Other names that could yield the nn Nell/Nellie: Agnella, Anelma, Catrinel, Leonelle, Nelida, Chanel.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] Also love the name [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] but feel [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is the more natural nickname that they’ll end up getting from family and peers. I know [name_u]Penny[/name_u] is probably considered same for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but I feel the “Nell” sounds more pronounced so would more likely “stick” - just my justification
I adore Nell/Nellie but would use either of them as a full name rather than a nickname for something longer! If I had to choose a long form, though, I’d go for the lovely [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Nell[/name_f] is my favourite, although [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is my daughter’s middle so I love that too
I also like [name_f]Nella[/name_f], [name_f]Cornelia[/name_f], [name_f]Antonella[/name_f], [name_f]Fenella[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_u]Endellion[/name_u], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f] and [name_f]Anneli[/name_f] as ways to [name_f]Nell[/name_f], some stretchier than others!
