What is your impression of the name Fiona?

I’m not a huge fan because of Shrek and because of the sound (I dislike f- starting sounds in girl names for some reason). But depending on where you live (e.g. UK or Ireland) it could still be usable! It sounds somewhat princessy, somewhat spunkier and sassier than [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] & [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] (which I love though). I can see it happening as much as [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] & other [name_f]Princess[/name_f] names though!

Yes, am Australian - [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] & [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] are two other cousins’ names (lol). [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] wasn’t nearly as popular here as in the US in the 1975-2000 period and neither was [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] for that matter - but [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] would have been (with [name_f]Emily[/name_f] & Kate!). I was trying to give you peppier names from that time/ genre than [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] faves would be [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] (Pippa/Pip) or [name_f]Heather[/name_f]. I can’t pull the trigger on [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] either (don’t like the nicknames).

But some of my own fave names are:

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Frances[/name_f]
[name_f]Solenne[/name_f]
Urusula (I know, [name_m]Little[/name_m] Mermaid did a dirty!)
[name_f]Oona[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Romy[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]

[name_f]Kate[/name_f] has been wiggling its way onto my list! I love the timeless simplicity of [name_f]Jane[/name_f] but it’s gotten pretty popular here and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] has a similar vibe to me.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f] (and Francine), though a friend has already called dibs on it.

[name_f]Oona[/name_f] I used to not really get the appeal of, but the more I see it I’m starting to really like it! I just love o’s and n’s and a’s for some reason. :joy::woman_shrugging:[name_f]Solenne[/name_f] is interesting, too.

I don’t associate [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] with the movie at all! I only think of the people I know of named [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. And if the movie was someone’s first association, I don’t think that’s a bad thing! [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] doesn’t seem princessy or frilly to me at all. More like a strong, spunky, lively girl.
