So is there any names you used to hate when you were younger or in general but for some reason now love so much?
When I was younger I used to hate the name [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and I don’t know why! But now I’m fifteen years old I love the name now and would use it as a middle name for my future son. After watching the film Uncle [name_m]Buck[/name_m] I noticed there was an adorable little boy in it with the name of [name_m]Miles[/name_m] and now thanks to that film I now love the name.
I also used to hate the name Maizy but now after watching the film Uncle [name_m]Buck[/name_m] I now love the name and I think it’s a really sweet name for a little girl. But I don’t think I would use it.
And I also used to hate the name [name_m]Henry[/name_m] but now after watching the film The Good [name_m]Son[/name_m] I now love the name! But I don’t know if I would use it though.
So is there any names you used to hate but now thanks to someone or something you now love the name?
Hmm. I seem to rarely change my mind for the better; it seems like once I hate a name, I hate it forever. There are a few names that I used to hate but am now indifferent to thanks to positive associations: [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]/[name_f]Megan[/name_f] come to mind.
The only name that I used to really hate and now love is my name, [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]. I still somewhat prefer just [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] to my full name, but now I see the merits of [name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f] whereas before I used to loathe it.
This tends to happen when I hear the name on the other gender.
[name_m]Forest[/name_m] & [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]- I’ve always thought they were OK for boys but I had no interest in using them. Someone on NB asked about [name_m]Forest[/name_m] for a girl and on another site a mom posted about her teen daughter, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. On boys [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] & [name_m]Forest[/name_m] were just names but when attached to a girl suddenly I pictured a lush forest and a gorgeous stone. Strangely, I just don’t get that when these names are attached to boys
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]- I hate [name_f]Jade[/name_f] for a girl but then the actress [name_f]Garcelle[/name_f] [name_m]Beauvais[/name_m] named her son Jaid. On a boy [name_f]Jade[/name_f] feels so strong and beautiful. Plus, I always felt jade stones looked masculine
I didn’t used to like clunky strong names but now I do: [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_f]Judith[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Maeva[/name_f], [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f], [name_f]Edith[/name_f], [name_f]Constance[/name_f], [name_f]Margolette[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f].
Also, now I see the appeal of names like [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], [name_f]Esther[/name_f], and [name_f]Edith[/name_f], though I previously despised them.
I used to be really into made up & tacky sounding names that I thought were cool & now can’t stand. Names that I wouldn’t have liked then but do now are probably the more traditional ones like [name_u]James[/name_u] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] & [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Bo[/name_u]/[name_m]Beau[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Cruz[/name_u]
[name_f]Faustina[/name_f]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u] on a girl
[name_f]Paloma[/name_f]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] (I never hated it, but I disliked it for a while because of Adventure Time, which I do hate).
Great topic! I used to hate a lot of my favourite names.
Some names that u used to hate but not anymore are:
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Sailor[/name_u] (both genders)
[name_u]Carter[/name_u] (both genders)
Actually, most occupational names
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
An embarrassing collection of boy names on girls ([name_u]Gary[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], and many more).
[name_u]Chandler[/name_u] (girl)
Color namss such as [name_u]Blue[/name_u], [name_f]Pink[/name_f], [name_u]Green[/name_u], [name_m]Brown[/name_m], etc
[name_u]Jessie[/name_u] (still hate [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] though)
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_u]Jet[/name_u]
I That should be all for now. o
I agree with the PP about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], and [name_f]India[/name_f] are three that I’ve loved and hated. As for boys… [name_m]Ezra[/name_m], my all time name love, I used to despise. Weird right?
I am starting to like longer names, whereas before I couldn’t stand names that were more than two syllables. So now I like [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Carolyn[/name_f], [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f].
I would say I’m coming around to [name_f]Ann[/name_f]/[name_f]Anne[/name_f]. It is my middle name with the first spelling, but with all the variations of it, I’m starting to really see the merit of it. The beauty and simplicity.
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is another one a few years back I didn’t like much, but now. I like it a lot.
I guess one name I’m still working on is [name_m]Carl[/name_m]. I like [name_m]Carlos[/name_m], but [name_m]Carl[/name_m] seems a bit, bleh. So maybe in a few years I’d like it? We will see.
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f] was a name I absolutely thought was made up. Once I learned the history behind it, I am starting to love the name. However, this name I will not use for my child, but it works perfectly in a story line.
[name_u]Lyric[/name_u]. The first time I saw it, I thought “Who in the heck would give this name to their poor little girl?”… But I’ve slowly grown to Really kind of like it. Maybe even to the point where I’d give it to my first girl. Despite it being a bit “wordy” for a name, I like how it is musical as well as having a catchy ring to it said out loud.
I used to absolutely hate [name_u]Tate[/name_u] and [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]. I changed my mind about [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] when I married my husband, now I like the name. I used to think [name_u]Tate[/name_u]
sounded too much like Tote or Toto, but now I love the name.
[name_f]Ursula[/name_f]. I used to hate it, thought it was super ugly. But I’m falling in love with it now! Ill never use it I don’t think, but id love to see it used by someone else…
