What names have you heard recently? Good or bad!

I was at a junior rodeo (ages 10 and under) and here are the WORST names I noticed from the roster:

  1. Shanks- Yep…like the prison weapon.
  2. Treylr- Yeah i think that’s Trailer…spelled wrong. Seems like “trailer trash” to me lol… poor kid!
  3. Mackyleigh- [name]How[/name] many extra letters do we need??
  4. [name]Bliss[/name]- Maybe some people like this but I think it sounds more appropriate for an “adult entertainer”…
  5. Brolin- Eeks…

Here are the ones I found interesting/nice:

  1. [name]Sayer[/name]- Although this was for a girl, I like it on a boy.
  2. Steeley- Not my style but I thought it was cute for a little cowgirl.
  3. [name]Annabeth[/name]- Sweet
  4. [name]Creed[/name]- Kind of cool on this little boy!

What have you seen recently, good or bad?? (There were plenty of nice typical top 100 names on the roster, I just didn’t find them interesting enough to mention on here.)

[name]Love[/name] [name]Annabeth[/name]! Character in my favorite books. I met a kindergartener named [name]Thea[/name] while helping in my church’s bible school program last week. She was adorable, and I fell in love with the name! Then, I was at a relative’s graduation party, and one of the other distant relatives has three kids - [name]Nolan[/name], [name]Tessa[/name], and new baby [name]Wyatt[/name]. I thought it was the sweetest sibset!

I have a new nephew named [name]Logan[/name]. While its much too popular for my tastes, it suits the little one.
Other new names: Edgerrin- what were they thinking? and [name]Bea[/name]
[name]Austyn[/name]- on a baby girl. Is they ‘y’ supposed to make it feminine?
[name]Cohen[/name], [name]Fletcher[/name], and [name]Tate[/name]- all the mother’s maiden names for their sons…

I met a man named [name]Moses[/name] at church today. I was so excited because I love the name.

I was at a bridal shower yesterday and was surprised by the children I met. A two year old [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Richard[/name] and a six year old [name]Sharon[/name]. [name]Sharon[/name]?! Really?!

Recently at work I’ve met a [name]Fiorella[/name] (middle aged customer) and Hebba (new co worker). Also in my new creative writing class I’ve been put into a group with a [name]Julian[/name], [name]Arita[/name] and [name]Estelle[/name]. I love all these names.

Yesterday, I heard a father call for his little girls [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Erin[/name].

I met twins the other day named [name]Vivien[/name] & [name]Ava[/name]…not uncommon by any means, but I thought they complimented each other nicely.

I also met a girl named [name]Javelin[/name]. A lifetime of saying “Yes, just like the spear…”

I heard [name]Chloe[/name] and [name]Charlie[/name] as a sibset at the doctors today.

Over the weekend I found out a friend just had her 2nd, named the baby [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mae[/name],big sister is [name]Natalie[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. Nothing too exciting there imho but the names are similar and make a good sibling set.

Another friend also announced they are calling their dd [name]Kaya[/name] [name]Rose[/name], its their first and she is due in [name]September[/name].

In the child watch area at the Y there was another [name]Zeke[/name] (short of [name]Isaiah[/name] the dad said?) which was cool since [name]Zeke[/name] (just [name]Zeke[/name]) is my nephews name. Another name there that stuck out was a little girl who was 4-5ish named [name]Uma[/name]. Dh’s cousin and I are FB friends and she was posting pics from her sons last day of school and mentioned the names of his friends…2 of the boys (they are just leaving 3rd grade) were Iron and [name]Hank[/name] which stuck out for me…especially Iron. Not sure how I feel about that one…but [name]Hank[/name] is a great nn, I want to find out if its short for [name]Henry[/name] (I assume it is) without being stalkerish about it.

My friend’s family recently welcomed three new babies (from different relatives). They’re named [name]Elizabeth[/name], Cylus, and [name]Kloe[/name]. [name]Love[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], but Cylus and [name]Kloe[/name] seem super trendy. If Cylus had been [name]Silas[/name] or [name]Cyrus[/name] I think that would’ve been great.

Also, I work at a library and when I’m shelving in the children’s room I get to hear a lot of names. Most recently I heard…

[name]Piper[/name] and [name]Knox[/name] (sister and brother - can you say trendy?!)
[name]Cheyanne[/name]/[name]Cheyenne[/name]
[name]Ashley[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]

And the most surprising name I heard was [name]Carol[/name]-[name]Anne[/name] - on a little girl! It reminded me so much of the movie Poltergeist.

I watched an episode of [name]Bet[/name] On Your [name]Baby[/name] once and they had twin boys on named [name]James[/name] and [name]Orion[/name].

I met a little boy at the park, aged 2.5, whose name is [name]Holiday[/name].

Our newest preschool addition is [name]Maximus[/name] (he goes by [name]Max[/name]).

Not recent, but I worked at a summer day camp one year and met a young lady named Ecstasy (a few years before the drug was so named). I can only assume her parents were commemorating the moment of her conception.

Girls:
[name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Greta[/name] :frowning: (not a pretty name)
Haeyden
[name]Meadow[/name] (yes, really)
Vea (vay-uh)

Boys:
[name]Hudson[/name]
Knoxville
[name]Luca[/name]
[name]Dorsey[/name]

I met a little boy named [name]Amos[/name] recently. I love the style and sound of this name, but it sounds so close to “anus” that I don’t think I could use it on a kid. I think I’d go with [name]Otis[/name], which has a similar feel to me.

I met another kid, a girl named [name]Irena[/name] (ee-[name]RAY[/name]-nuh) who was shy and sweet. It made me love the name.

I also met a toddler named [name]Jessica[/name], which surprised me - it seems more like a mom name these days. It reminded me that most names that get super popular got that way for a reason: [name]Jessica[/name] is an objectively lovely name. Still, unexpected on a little one!

I just saw the names of 3 girls. They were named Dreams, Reality and [name]Divine[/name]… I’m not sure if the last name is spelled correctly. Absolutely not my thing.

I was a leader at my church’s VBS last week, and we had 5 kids on our group. They were [name]Byron[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Carson[/name], [name]Carter[/name], and [name]Elizabeth[/name] nn [name]Lizzie[/name]. Not so keen on [name]Carson[/name] and [name]Byron[/name], [name]Carter[/name] is okay, and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Lizzie[/name]. [name]Byron[/name] had a little sister named [name]Sally[/name], and I thought that was cute.

Yesterday I met a little boy named [name]Basil[/name], and today a little girl named [name]Audrey[/name]. Oh, and also an [name]Olivia[/name] [name]Joy[/name].
