What names that are popular on nameberry do you find overrated?

Bea-names apart from [name_f]Bea[/name_f] (bee) itself, [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_m]Cosmo[/name_m], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]

eleanor, august, elowen and antigone are the ones that i really can’t get behind. i can understand the appeal but they just aren’t for me! also, i literally can’t understand greer. is it literally pronounced the way it’s spelt? it sounds so strange to me.

Antigone & Ottilie (which was really popular last year)

[name_u]Rue[/name_u] / [name_u]Roux[/name_u] - This name makes me think of a local crosswalk of the same title that always has people selling bible classes💀

I still like most of these, just not as much as everyone else seems to.

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] / [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_u]Florence[/name_u] / [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_u]Wren[/name_u]

[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_u]Laurence[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_u]Ellis[/name_u]

[name_m]Soren[/name_m] & [name_m]Silas[/name_m]

Help [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] is literally so horrible ( I am sorry to those who like it but seriously). I immediately think of antiseptic. I pronounce it ‘anti’ ‘gone’ but I don’t know if that’s how you are meant to say it.

This isn’t a name but I am so sick of people using the teddy bear- leaf emoji comination with names (e.g Winniepeg :teddy_bear::maple_leaf:)I swear I see it everywhere, I literally have nightmares about teddy bears and leaves

She’s a tragic Greek heroine and honestly I’d be pretty upset if I was named after her. She’s the incestuous daughter of Oedipus and his mother, and eventually hangs herself.

definetely [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], theres nothing wrong with it, i just don’t get why it has become so popular here

:joy:

Mine are:

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]

[name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u]
[name_u]Royal[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]

[name_m]Silas[/name_m] and [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] are two of the ugliest male names I can think of.

[name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] are just too much. Simpler is prettier.

[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is just… not at all worthy of #1. So blah a sound.

[name_u]Royal[/name_u] is just eye-rolling. I’m seriously surprised it’s anywhere in the top few hundreds.

i’m sorry but as someone who really likes the name antigone (not to name a child, just in general), this comes across as quite rude to me. i hope i’m not being to sensitive, i just wanted to say how i feel.

@Amethyst_storm what a way to describe it

@new.romantic
i don’t think you’re being sensitive! as a person who doesn’t love Antigone either, I still think they could have worded it a little better

I don’t like [name_f]Antigone[/name_f] not because it’s an ugly name but because I can’t stand the heroine.

[name_f]Lumi[/name_f] - it’s trendy and common in Finland and just oversaturated online when it comes to any Finnish name lists. Also the [name_f]English[/name_f] pronunciation (Loo-mee) grates on my ears a little (although to be fair the Finnish vowel sounds there don’t have an exact [name_f]English[/name_f] equivalent so the mispronunciation is inevitable). I appreciate that this one’s a little ironic given my user name, which is Finnish for snowy.

I haven’t seen it much recently, but for me it’s [name_u]Piper[/name_u]. I just really dislike the sound.

I have a similar problem with [name_u]Harper[/name_u], it sounds harsh in a similar but different way.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - I’ve met nothing but rude Eleanor’s in my life
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] an overall not very appealing sound with negative associations for me
[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] - The actual Greek Mythology character essentially hangs herself (not a great message for your child)
[name_f]Ottilie[/name_f] - Something about the “Ott” I can only get by for [name_u]Otter[/name_u], If you like this name just use [name_f]Tillie[/name_f] instead

[name_f]Antigone[/name_f] always reminds me of antidote, lmao. I don’t want to offend anyone who likes it, tho. We’re all different.
