What names...

…do you love that are pretty much hated on Nameberry? For example, Paisley! And Helga! And for boys, Caden. And Patch (AKA a name that was on a worst name list). So what ‘naming crimes’ have you committed? :slight_smile:
Disclaimer: I’m not trying to offend the people who do hate certain names, I’m just seeing who else likes them.

[name_f]Leda[/name_f]. But that may be because it’s foreign name and Englishmen are trying to pronounce it Leeda. Here it’s pronounced [name_f]Layda[/name_f] (I suck at pronunciation and may be wrong) and I find this pretty.

[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]
[name_m]Cohen[/name_m] (I like the way it sounds. I would never ever use it because I know some people are offended by it.)
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] (Stupid Shrek has turned people off this name)
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u] ( Some nameberries think it’s too dated. I don’t think it is)

[name_f]Olga[/name_f]. I can’t recall seeing anyone who actually like [name_f]Olga[/name_f].

I love place names & river names…[name_u]Shannon[/name_u], Mississippi, [name_u]Jordan[/name_u], [name_f]Picabo[/name_f]…anything that makes genealogy data-entry more interesting than the endless generations of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]John[/name_m].

I have a guilty pleasure for the name [name_u]Aiden[/name_u]

Pretty much all of the -aiden names are guilty pleasures for me.

[name_u]Paisley[/name_u], not just nameberry my mom hates it too.
Also, I have a soft spot for [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] which I never admit out loud.

[name_u]Aiden[/name_u]/[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]. I think it is handsome, but I don’t like the [name_u]Jayden[/name_u]/[name_m]Zayden[/name_m]/etc.

Also, [name_u]Hunter[/name_u]. It is the name my husband absolutely wants to use for a future son.

@shvibziks I like [name_f]Olga[/name_f]! That may be due to a wonderful woman called [name_f]Olga[/name_f] in my acquaintance though.

My GP names are [name_f]Helga[/name_f], [name_f]Griselda[/name_f], [name_f]Elvira[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementia[/name_f]. The latter caused a lot of people to think of dementia, but I just love the way it looks and sounds (when pronounced clay-MEN-see-ah).

By the way, my husband has vetoed all four names and he isn’t even on nameberry…

I love [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] :slight_smile:

I’m so used to people hating my names I don’t discuss them with anyone anymore, except my husband who hates them too but at least doesn’t put me down about it lol

Oh! I just remembered an absolute GP name of mine. It is totally nameberry-unfriendly because… it is made-up and a merger of two perfectly acceptable names! (dun-dun-dunn)

Here is goes: Elsinore - half [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], half [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. This is also the anglicised name of the Danish town Helsingør (setting of [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m]). I just love, love the sound and look of this name but would never use it.

@dottipanda–That’s an awesome name! :slight_smile:

Hhhhhmmmmm…I don’t know that they are universally hated on nameberry, but they are considered “taboo”. I like [name_f]Columbine[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Columbine[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]!

Another [name_u]Aden[/name_u] fan here (but only this spelling.) I’ve also committed the cardinal sin of liking the idea of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m] on girls.

I love [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] as well. And [name_f]Saffron[/name_f], which some Berries dislike, although I’m not sure they hate it. :slight_smile:

[name_f]Louisiana[/name_f], [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_f]Boheme[/name_f]. I’m not sure they’re actually hated, but I’m almost certain that more than a few would disapprove : )

I love Elliette for a girl. [name_f]Every[/name_f] forum I’ve seen that has that name, everyone really seems to dislike it. But I cannot understand why! I know it’s supposed to be a boy name, and I generally do hate boy names on girls. I’ve not seen many people that like [name_u]Blakely[/name_u] for a girl either.

As for boys, I love [name_u]Hayden[/name_u]. It’s about the only “[name_u]Aidan[/name_u]” type name that I like.

Mackenzie for a girl. And to a lesser extent Reese and Allison. And, admittedly, Paisley and Piper. None really fit with my other name likes, so I wouldn’t use them, but I do like them.
I also prefer Silvia over Sylvia/Sylvie, Olivine and Olive over Olivia, Carlotta over Charlotte, Clare over Clair over Claire - not exactly hated choices here, but not the popular ones.
I love Tallulah, which some Berries dislike - I’ve seen it in several lists on the Top 10 Most Annoying Names thread.
And I like Jordana and Morgana, which I haven’t seen much love for here.

@erin91 & rkrd -I like Fiona and Shannon, too! Though I haven’t really seen Shannon mentioned much here, and I haven’t seen any hate for Fiona that I can recall.
@shvibziks -I actually sort of like Olga! I don’t love it enough to use it, but I don’t hate it.
@dottipanda -Elsinore is cute!
@nymphalis antiopa -I like Jemima! And oddly enough, though I’m in the US, I’ve never really heard of Aunt Jemima, at least I hadn’t before NB. I still hesitate to use it, though, plus it’s not among my absolute favorites.

ETA: I also like Jezebel. Which I’ve rarely seen mentioned here. But I think it would be problematic. Plus I’m an atheist. And though I like that some perceptions of biblical Jezebel now are of her as a strong feminist woman, I’m afraid it’ll still cause issues, and it’s probably a bit too Bible-associated in general.
