What a beautiful name! I’m an Aussie and one of the reasons I’m reluctant to use [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is because I always shorten names, but wouldn’t want to shorten this one!
I do think [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is the sweetest, but much too common. [name_f]My[/name_f] second pick is [name_u]Del[/name_u]/[name_f]Della[/name_f] which is really cute and the one I voted for.
Either is great choice or even both.

[name_f]My[/name_f] sisters name is [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and she has an endless amount of nns; we call her Tild, [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f]-toes, [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Tildy[/name_f] etc lol

One of my favourite nns for [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] (assuming you are pronouncing it [name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh-leen) is [name_f]Lina[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Leena[/name_f] but I voted for [name_u]Dell[/name_u] because that is also very sweet.

Is there one that feels more natural/you automatically want to say without thinking?

[name_f]Addie[/name_f]. Everything else feels a bit contrived…

None of my favourites were on your list ^^

I like [name_f]Lina[/name_f] like a previous poster mentioned.

Personally I would go with [name_f]Adie[/name_f] (much sweeter than [name_f]Addie[/name_f]), Lady or [name_f]Leda[/name_f].

[name_f]Adele[/name_f] doesn’t feel right to me, it works better as a nickname for [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] than [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].

Of the ones from your list I would probably go with [name_u]Dell[/name_u] since it’s the more unusual option.

I voted for [name_f]Addie[/name_f], but now I’m leaning toward [name_f]Ada[/name_f].

I agree that [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is very common, with names like [name_u]Addison[/name_u], [name_f]Adele[/name_f] & [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] being popular. I thought [name_u]Dell[/name_u] might be a cute alternative

We actually pronounce her name “[name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh-line”. It seems to phonetically suit our Australian accent better. I’ve been saying aloud [name_f]Addie[/name_f] and [name_u]Dell[/name_u] to test what feels natural & [name_u]Dell[/name_u] seems to feel better for me.

Because we pronounce her name “[name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh-line”, I couldn’t use [name_f]Lina[/name_f] or [name_f]Adie[/name_f]. I’m also drawn to the more unusual [name_u]Dell[/name_u], so think I will go with that. Thanks

Such a pretty combo deserves both names recognized in the nickname so when people ask her what her full name is throughout her life, she’ll get to say both.

I’d say “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]-[name_f]Grace[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]-G.”

I voted for [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. [name_f]Ada[/name_f] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] are names in their own right, and [name_u]Dell[/name_u] makes me think boy.

I wish I could vote for no nickname. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is gorgeous. I would actually call her [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and shorten it to [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] at times.

I really like pp.’s suggestion of [name_f]Lena[/name_f] but voted for [name_f]Adele[/name_f].

[name_m]Reason[/name_m] for my vote: [name_f]Ada[/name_f] is too popular as a stand alone name that I feel shortening [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] wouldn’t be my choice. [name_f]Addie[/name_f] just isn’t as pretty as [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] to me. [name_u]Dell[/name_u] is ams - I actually find it a bit odd. Which leaves [name_f]Adele[/name_f] - which is tied to the singer but as an association doesn’t bother me. I also choose [name_f]Adele[/name_f] as my choice from your above suggestions because it will give your daughter the most distinctive nn.

Beautiful, strong name. Personally, I wouldn’t shorten it, but [name_f]Addie[/name_f] or [name_f]Ada[/name_f] my favorite nn. [name_u]Dell[/name_u] just reminds me of the computer and [name_f]Adele[/name_f] reminds me of the singer [name_f]Adele[/name_f], and isn’t as known of a nickname as [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

I like [name_u]Dell[/name_u]. It’s so cute! [name_f]Addie[/name_f] is just way too common in my opinion.

I voted for [name_f]Addie[/name_f], but [name_f]Della[/name_f] would be cute!

Thanks everyone for your input! As I mentioned earlier, I will definitely continue to call her [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. I actually call her [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] a lot of the time, too. Personally, I feel that her name is stunning on it’s own & I don’t feel the need to shorten it. It is only three syllables, after all!

The only issue I’ve been having & the reason for this post is that people keep asking what nickname to call her. In Australia, it happens a lot & I know that our friends & family will give her a pet name anyway, regardless of what I say. I do know however that people will use the nickname that I say I prefer.

I think [name_u]Dell[/name_u] & [name_f]Addie[/name_f] are the winners for me. I loved the suggestion of [name_f]Addie[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]…very cute & a good way to make it sound less common. Thanks again, Nameberry peeps
