What’s your thoughts on the name Abilo for a boy?

I had to go back to the drawing board since some random Swedish singer stole my baby name (Frans) and i happened to stumble upon the name Abilo which is an hispanic name (pronounced uh-bill-low) it also means someone who is proficient and skilled in whatever he does. which i found interesting but i don’t know what do you think?

Sound wise I don’t mind it, it kind of feels like a male variant of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] to me. Though if this is a Spanish name it would not be pronounced as uh-bill-oh, it would be pronounced as ah-BEE-loh. I couldn’t find anything conclusive about the meaning of the name nor the origin, I’ve never heard it used before either as a name or used as a word. For something similar you might like Abilio which is Spanish and Portuguese, [name_u]Abril[/name_u] which is usually used on a girl in Spanish but is just the Spanish word for [name_f]April[/name_f] so I think it could pass as unisex, or the unisex [name_f]Avril[/name_f] (or [name_u]Averill[/name_u] which is [name_f]English[/name_f] from Irish)

Oh ok maybe the site that i listened to the pronunciation might not been saying it right and besides i like the uh-bee-low pronunciation better.

I would use [name_m]Frans[/name_m]. Millions of people use our baby names after all. Abilo sounds like a reading program with phonics to me. And I’m not keen on phonics.

Abilo has a cool sound!

I prefer [name_m]Frans[/name_m] (or Franz) and I don’t think you should worry about a singer in one part of the world who is very unlikely to be both internationally and historically famous. Also it’s still a name that seems to be attached to a regular name (ie not a word or brand name like [name_u]Prince[/name_u] or [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] - and speaking of, people use [name_u]Prince[/name_u] and [name_f]Madonna[/name_f] anyway). As said in other thread, I would lean on side of easy to recognise and pronounce (and probably a name from their heritage) when naming an adopted child.

I prefer [name_m]Frans[/name_m] or [name_m]Franz[/name_m] myself…

abilo is nice, but i also prefer frans though.

i looked up the singer - he’s been singing for almost 20 years but only has 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify - compared with beyonce’s 50 million

i like frans for you, you should reconsider it !

Abilo reminds me of abuelo or libido so I’m not a fan. Also, I’m sure someone has used it before if it’s a real name so if you’re concerned with using a name that no one else in the world has it’s probably not the right fit.
