What’s your thoughts on the name Shoney?

The name Shoney is derived from the name of a restaurant pronounced Show-nee

In the [name_u]South[/name_u] it’s a fairly bad all you can eat restaurant.

It’s just a meh restaurant to me honestly.

Sounds like a mash of show and pony? I don’t have any associations! However, the sound isn’t great, to me.

I’d probably pick a name with a more intuitive pronunciation. I was kind of thinking this was more like [name_u]Shawn[/name_u] in a cutesy way.

Never heard of the restaurant. Sounds okay to me, but I prefer sound-alikes [name_f]Shawnee[/name_f], [name_f]Shauna[/name_f], or [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f].

The association with the restaurant is terrible. No way would I use this name.

pros:

  • it’s unique and uncommon name that may make it memorable for people

cons:

  • it may lead to pronunciation issues or misspellings, especially if people are unfamiliar with the name or its origin
  • some people may associate the name with food or dining (which could be a positive or negative depending on one’s perspective)

I’m not from the US and ive never heard of that restaurant, but I don’t really like the sound of this name. It reminds me of the word shonky.

not my fav :frowning:

I have never actually heard this name I think it is kind of cool.

I’d go with [name_f]Shoshana[/name_f]. Shoney’s is definitely a restaurant.

I’m from the [name_u]West[/name_u] and it makes me think of the [name_f]Shoshone[/name_f] Native American tribe and [name_f]Shoshone[/name_f] Falls. I’ve heard [name_f]Shoshone[/name_f] pronounced with a -shown ending as well as -shoney.

I do know a [name_f]Shaney[/name_f] (“shay-nee”; short for Shaneylin) and I think that sounds similar, but I like that sound a little better!
