I am having my 4th child, a boy. So far we have named our last 3 after one of the 4 grandparents, leaving the last grandparent (a female) who just recently passed away. Her name was [name]Violet[/name] [name]Louise[/name] Greye. Greye would be perfect for us to use for a boy, however, our last name is [name]Wolff[/name]. Greye [name]Wolff[/name] just won’t work. I don’t care for [name]Grayson[/name] (too feminine). So we were thinking maybe we would use Greyer for a middle name. Well, we just aren’t finding any first names we “love”. [name]Do[/name] you think Greyer [name]Wolff[/name] is just too much and the kiddo would be made fun of? Our first names we like the most are [name]Abram[/name] and [name]Silas[/name].
[name]Abram[/name] Greyer
[name]Silas[/name] Greyer (but we have a girl named [name]Selah[/name] and I think that may be too close - could we do Greyer [name]Silas[/name] instead?)
Or do you have suggestions for another name? We want something simple, strong and uncommon. Our other kids names are [name]Jack[/name] [name]Monty[/name], [name]Rayce[/name] [name]Brian[/name] and [name]Selah[/name] [name]Belle[/name].
For me personally, I like Greye or Greyer better than both [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Abram[/name], so I would go that way. I definitely understand the pressure to name the fourth after the last grandparent when the previous 3 are!
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Louis[/name] at all (from [name]Louise[/name])? Maybe you could name him [name]Louis[/name] Greyer and call him Greyer??
My other thought was that Greyer to me is close to [name]Greer[/name] if you like that better with your last name.
[name]Grayson[/name] [name]Wolff[/name]. Is that too much like a gray wolf? I think it is. Any of the gray names are too much like a gray wolf.
I think I would go another direction. You could name him [name]Louis[/name] or [name]Lewis[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] like [name]Emily[/name] said. Or you could name him something that starts with a V like [name]Violet[/name]: [name]Victor[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], etc.
Or you could name him something that means the same thing as [name]Louise[/name]. [name]Louise[/name] means renowned warrior. Here are some warrior names: (be right back, going over to the Behind the Name website to look up names.) Later - I found [name]Charles[/name], [name]Duncan[/name] and [name]Ryder[/name], they all mean warrior.
Hmm. I think Greyer [name]Wolff[/name] is a little to “[name]Grey[/name] [name]Wolf[/name]”. So I searched names that mean grey and found:
[name]Blanford[/name] (I like this one!)
[name]Greeley[/name]
[name]Horton[/name]
[name]Lloyd[/name]
I like [name]Abram[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] a lot! Greyer and Greye and [name]Greyson[/name] all sound too gloomy or howling with [name]Wolff[/name] last name.
Somehow I overlooked [name]Abram[/name] before. I love [name]Abram[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Wolff[/name]. Sounds very masculine and gruff, but also very handsome.
I also really like AbramLouis [name]Wolff[/name]. (I love the flow of [name]Abraham[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Wolff[/name].) To me, any [name]Grey[/name] name makes me think of a grey wolf.
I think you could do [name]Silas[/name] Greye [name]Wolff[/name] if you wanted to honor the grandmother using the Greye part of her name. Yes, it is gray wolf but it is a middle name and has great family significance. (I agree with pp that any of the [name]Grey[/name]- names are too much for the first name slot). If you would consider honoring the grandmother using [name]Louis[/name], I think that is also a great name and makes a very handsome combo with [name]Abram[/name].
I think that the solution would be to give your son the middle name of [name]Graham[/name], it has the properties of [name]Grey[/name] and of [name]Abram[/name].
I like the suggestion of [name]Graham[/name] and actually think it could work as a fn.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] doesn’t remind me too much of grey wolfs.
But I tend to like using unadulterated versions of names to honor people and therefore would probably choose _____ Greye [name]Wolff[/name].
FN: [name]Louis[/name], [name]Lewis[/name], Porfirio, [name]Lavender[/name] ([name]Lavender[/name] could be cool cause it stars with the L from [name]Louise[/name] but means purple like [name]Violet[/name]), [name]Ludwig[/name], or Vico (Italian form of [name]Louis[/name] that starts with the V from [name]Violet[/name]).
[name]Louis[/name] is the perfect solution if you want to pick a name to honor your grandmother. Any of the [name]Grey[/name] variants is too much in the first name slot, but you could do [name]Louis[/name] Greye [name]Wolff[/name]. You could also drop the Greye and do another mn with [name]Louis[/name].
I agree that [name]Louis[/name] would work really nicely - but that Greye would be the best option for the middle name. Yes, “grey wolf” but it’s the middle name, it has a lot of family significance and I think that trumps any silly comments people could make.
I could see [name]Greer[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] or [name]Gregor[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] or one of the other words for [name]Grey[/name], but not Greye [name]Wolff[/name]. I do think that [name]Silas[/name] and [name]Selah[/name] are a little close, so I would use [name]Abram[/name]. [name]Abram[/name] [name]Louis[/name] [name]Wolff[/name] is very handsome. [name]Abram[/name] [name]Viggo[/name], [name]Abram[/name] [name]Vale[/name], or [name]Abram[/name] [name]Victor[/name] also work as honoring names.
i would use a variation of [name]Louise[/name] - [name]Louis[/name], as a middle name and use one of your first choice first names. I agree that you can’t use Greye with [name]Wolff[/name]. [name]Abram[/name] [name]Louis[/name] sounds nice to me!
Honestly, I see nothing wrong with the name Greye [name]Wolff[/name]…I prefer it in fact. If you just can’t stomach it Greyer [name]Wolff[/name] sounds good too. To be honest, I don’t think your kid will get ragged For that name …its cool and unique
