What To Name Sextuplets - A Hypothetical Discussion 🌷

I’ve decided to have a little fun today and make a thread for a theoretical family excepting sextuplets! So with the guidelines given below, what would you suggest for this family? PS - I wasn’t exactly sure how to format this post, so I’ve tried to do it in the least weird way possible, though I don’t think I’ve managed too well

Looking for some suggestions of names for our sextuplets!

Rules we’d like to follow -
– Names cannot start with the same letter as their older siblings names.
– Cannot be too matchy, for example, no [name_u]Fox[/name_u] and [name_u]Bear[/name_u] or [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] and [name_f]Betty[/name_f].
– Needs to have a nickname we like, it can be stretchy or not.
– Can’t be something that’s very hard to spell or pronounce, no [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] (Madelyn, [name_f]Madelynn[/name_f], [name_f]Madalyn[/name_f], etc).
– Preferably isn’t an extremely unique or common name, I’d like to stay away from names that no one has ever hear or has heard every day for the last 10 years.
– Can’t be a nickname name, as much as we love names like [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], and [name_m]Dewey[/name_m], we want a longer more formal name on the birth certificate!

Names we like and are considering -
[name_m]Cassian[/name_m]
[name_m]Oskar[/name_m]
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]
[name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_u]Arthur[/name_u]
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Louis[/name_m]
[name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]Edward[/name_u]
[name_u]Walter[/name_u]
[name_u]George[/name_u]

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Irina[/name_f]
[name_f]Karina[/name_f]
[name_u]Mina[/name_u]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

We are having 3 girls and 3 boys! They will be joining older siblings [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] :two_hearts:

A little bonus question for fun: what would rules would you follow if you had to name sextuplets?

For [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] & [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] I really like:
[name_u]Edward[/name_u], [name_u]Henry[/name_u], & [name_u]George[/name_u] for the boys and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], & [name_f]Violet[/name_f] for girls. I think they go well with the older siblings names, feel like a “matched” set while maintaining individuality, and all keep their own initial.
For middles my suggestions would be:
[name_u]Edward[/name_u] — [name_m]Louis[/name_m] or [name_m]Cassian[/name_m]
[name_u]Henry[/name_u] — [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] or [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_u]George[/name_u] — [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] or [name_m]Horatio[/name_m]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] — [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] or [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] — [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Araminta[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] — [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Karina[/name_f] or [name_f]Irina[/name_f]

[name_m]Isidore[/name_m]

Bonus

For myself, I would probably follow a lot of the same rules you set out, maybe less strict.
— all have their own initials
— all have a name that feels unique to them and isn’t too close to a siblings in sound, origin, or meaning
— all feel “inspired” and were picked because they had meaning to me personally
— all are names I actually like (if asked I don’t want anyone feeling they got handed a short stick)
— all have positive meanings or associations (really important to me when naming multiples, especially if five have “good” meanings and one is “ehh” or not the greatest)
— either all have honour names or none have honour names
— each has a nickname I like or can live with, as siblings tend to nickname each other whats easiest and its harder to set a precedent with so many at one time

To use your example of three of each, mine would be named something like:
[name_u]Rafe[/name_u] [name_m]Excalibur[/name_m] [name_u]Truth[/name_u]
[name_m]Thorin[/name_m] [name_m]Astrophel[/name_m] Fenrys
[name_m]Osiris[/name_m] [name_m]Kalixto[/name_m] Stormborn
[name_f]Medusa[/name_f] [name_f]Stellaluna[/name_f] [name_f]Yvaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Evolet[/name_f] Gwynevere [name_f]Valkyrie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nimue[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_u]Owl[/name_u]

Using your list:
Theodore Bernard, Beatrice Sophia, …
Henry Edward, Arthur Louis, George Ambrose, Eleanor Karina, Matilda Juniper, and Daphne Alice
Teddy, Bee, Hal, Ari, Georgie, Leo, Tillie, and Nina

Using new suggestions:
Theodore Bernard, Beatrice Sophia, …
Andrew Simon, Frederick Jasper, Maxwell Nicholas, Josephine Estelle, Natalia Florence, and Lucille Octavia
Theo, Bee, Drew, Freddie, Max, Josie, Lia, and Lucy

Bonus

My rules for sextuplets would probably be:

  1. No repeat intials with me, their other parent, or any older siblings so that all family members have their own letter
  2. Names should feel similar in length and have a similar amount of nickname potential
  3. Be cohesive stylistically
  4. Would prefer to not have any repeated ending sounds but just so long as nothing is too rhymey or creates an odd one out situation (such as 5/6 girls ending in -a and the sixth one not), this can be flexible
  5. No blatant themes such as all flower names or all astrological names (this rule does not apply to middle names, an obvious theme in the middle can be fun)
  6. Either all have an honor middle or none do
  7. A subtle theme such as matching letter count or all having a double letter or the potential for matchy nicknames (with other options in case they decide they don’t like matching ) is a plus but not necessary

So basically the same as my rules for regular sibsets with the addition of #7.

Edit to add: formatting, a rule I forgot, and what I’d probably name my own 3B/3G sextuplets:
William Griffin
Caspian Alan
Frederick Robin
Daphne Violetta
Juliet Annemarie
Elaine Virginia
Will, Ian, Freddie, Nina, Jet, and Lane (middles are all honors)

Using my own ideas based on yours:

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Bernard[/name_m], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and…

Using your list of considerations:
[name_u]Walter[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] “Wally”
[name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Horatio[/name_m] “Lou”
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m] [name_m]Oskar[/name_m] “Giddy”
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_u]Mina[/name_u] “Nella”
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] “Lissy”
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] “Maggie”

And of my own accord:
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] “Nat”
[name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] “Haz”
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] “Alfie”
[name_f]Maud[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] “Maudie”
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] “Jo”
[name_f]Frances[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] “Franny”

Rules I’d use to name sextuplets would be:

  • Middles are honor names.
  • No repeating initials, ideally.
  • Nickname potential needed!
