I was almost [name]Dawn[/name] [name]Joy[/name] but later they decided on [name]Denise[/name] [name]Joy[/name]… I’m pretty glad otherwise I would have been named after two dish soaps!
I love everyone’s stories!
The only other girl’s name I’ve heard that was on the ballot was [name]Nancy[/name], in honor of my mom’s favorite aunt. Had I been a boy, I would have been [name]John[/name]. My mom wanted the middle to be [name]Pax[/name], my father’s first name, but he didn’t like the idea. So, at a seeming loss for other middles, they would have called me [name]John[/name] [name]Parker[/name], the name of the minuteman statue in [name]Boston[/name] (where they lived). As it is, I’m an [name]Ellen[/name].
If I was a boy I would have been called [name]Craig[/name]. It’s rather uncommon around my area, in fact I only know of one (my sister’s classmate) and it’s quite ironic because the name that I ended up with as a girl is so darn popular.
I was nearly [name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Eileen[/name] or [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Denee[/name] (said like [name]Danae[/name]… I have no clue why my parents would have spelled it this way! [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Danae[/name] would have been lovely, actually…). If I had been a boy, I would have been either [name]Levi[/name] [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Charles[/name] _____ nn [name]Charlie[/name], or [name]Andrew[/name] [name]Michael[/name]. I’m so glad I am a girl because I really don’t like [name]Andrew[/name] or [name]Michael[/name], and I doubt I would have minded [name]Levi[/name] [name]Matthew[/name] (I actually probably would have been a cool [name]Levi[/name] if I had been a boy!), and I would have LOVED being [name]Charles[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name], but that was probably the least likely contender because my dad hated it. In reality, I probably would have been [name]John[/name] [name]Robert[/name], III, nn [name]Johnny[/name], though… my mom made my dad promise she wouldn’t have to have a [name]John[/name], III, and he agreed, but when my brother was born, she just couldn’t resist the look on his face, lol.
They still couldn’t decide even after I was born, so while my dad was holding me, he said something like, “Well, are you a [name]Jennifer[/name] [name]Eileen[/name]?” And I bawled… like a baby. haha. So they moved onto [name]Alexandra[/name] [name]Denee[/name]… and I still whimpered. When they said [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Marie[/name] and I was happy as a clam, they knew that was to be my name. As I grew up I didn’t appreciate as much as I apparently did as a newborn, but I’m glad I have the name I do–it suits me completely and I can’t imagine not being [name]Ashley[/name] [name]Marie[/name]. Some people say I would have been a pretty awesome [name]Jenny[/name], though, haha.
I was supposed to be the boy of the family, but instead came out a girl. My name would have been [name]Charles[/name] [name]Patrick[/name]. My dad is [name]Charles[/name] [name]Elton[/name]. His dad is [name]Charles[/name] [name]Alvin[/name] and his dad was [name]Charles[/name] [name]Bernice[/name]. They would have called me [name]Patrick[/name]. For a girl mom also considered [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Charlie[/name], but ended up settling on [name]Cathryn[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. I’m named for my aunt [name]Kathryn[/name] and my mom’s ex-best friend, [name]Mary[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]. [name]Kathryn[/name] was changed to [name]Cathryn[/name] so I’d have dad’s initials.
My name is [name]Ellen[/name], but the other girls name my parents liked was [name]Sarah[/name]. If I was a boy, I would have been named [name]Andrew[/name] or [name]Jonah[/name], after [name]Jonah[/name] the little boy from Sleepless in Seattle because my parents love that movie.
I’m [name]Judith[/name] [name]Ann[/name] ([name]Judith[/name] for a character in my mother’s favorite book, and [name]Ann[/name] in honor of my grandmother), and if I hadn’t been named [name]Judith[/name], my name would have been [name]Barbara[/name], just because my mother liked the name. If I had been a boy, I would have been either [name]Gregory[/name] or [name]Byron[/name] ([name]Byron[/name] for [name]Boris[/name], my grandfather, and [name]Gregory[/name] because my parents liked the name).
I’m [name]Kaitlin[/name] because at the time I was born pretty much every birth was a surprise, and before I was due my dad dreamed my mom had a baby girl with lots of dark hair and named her [name]Caitlin[/name]… but my mom decided she liked it with a K better because our last name also starts with K. And when I was born I was indeed a girl (lol) and I had lots of dark hair, so that became my name. Other girls names they tossed around were [name]Rebekah[/name], [name]Hannah[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], and [name]Lydia[/name]. The only one of those I don’t like is [name]Rebekah[/name], not that there’s anything wrong with it, I’m just not a big fan.
If I was a boy I would mostly likely have been [name]Patrick[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Dodge[/name] (the D_____ [name]Dodge[/name] mn is a tradition for boys on my dad’s side), which was their compromise name, but my mom really would have preferred [name]Connor[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Dodge[/name] or [name]Collin[/name] [name]David[/name] [name]Dodge[/name]. I would much rather be named [name]Connor[/name] than either of those.
My parents considered the names [name]Katherine[/name] and [name]Adriana[/name] for me before I was born, my dad thought [name]Adriana[/name] sounded ‘too Italian’ lol and my parents weren’t a 100% in love with [name]Katherine[/name]. They eventually decided on [name]Andrea[/name] [name]Renee[/name], [name]Andrea[/name] is a name my mom loved since high school. If I was a boy my name was going to be [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Thomas[/name] after my dad.
Edited for privacy.
My name is [name]Amanda[/name] but I could have been named [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Amber[/name], or [name]Victoria[/name].
I was suppose to be [name]Ayla[/name] or [name]Alaina[/name] [name]Inez[/name]
and if i were a boy [name]Brandon[/name] [name]Charles[/name],[name]Dylan[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]One[/name] of the other names considered for me was [name]Mariesa[/name] [name]JeNiece[/name] (guessing on the spelling of the MN; the FN I’m sure of). This was also the name my mom was considering for a possible second daughter (which didn’t end up happening). If I’d been a boy, I’d have been called [name]Shaun[/name] [name]Daly[/name] (again, not sure on the spelling of the MN).
My mom was being pressured by my paternal grandmother to name me “[name]Angelina[/name]” after her, but my mom didn’t want to slight her own mother by not naming me “[name]Gloria[/name]” after HER. So she decided to name me after no one, and thus, I am one of a billion "[name]Lisa[/name] [name]Marie[/name]"s born in the 80s
I think she said she got the name from the credits on a soap opera or something, I dunno.
I was going to be [name]Annaliese[/name] with a nn of [name]Liesl[/name] because my last name is very german and sounds great with [name]Liesl[/name], but my father kept pronouncing it uglily, with a very long zee sound. It was unattractive. If I was a boy, I would have been [name]Patrick[/name]. My name is [name]Emma[/name]. I tire of it’s popularity often.
I was born in [name]April[/name] that would have been my name, but my dad thought the idea was cheesy. Also [name]Rachel[/name] was considered, which is funny because when people can’t quite remember my name it is ALWAYS [name]Rachel[/name] that they guess.
My name is [name]Angela[/name], but the parents kicked around [name]Audra[/name] and [name]Heather[/name]. And I think [name]Lincoln[/name], [name]Michael[/name], and [name]Douglas[/name] were the finalists for boys.
My mum always wanted [name]Jasmine[/name] [name]Helena[/name] ([name]Helena[/name] after her grandmother) for a girl, she never had any other girls names picked out because they were convinced that they were having a boy, so I up until I was born I was [name]Luke[/name] [name]William[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] or [name]Luke[/name] [name]Anthony[/name] [name]William[/name]. (I can’t remember the order of the middle names, but they were after my grandfathers.)
But, when I was born, my mum just said [name]Ebony[/name] [name]Eden[/name] straight away and my dad didn’t really care.
I was almost a [name]Dahlia[/name]. My dad want Shaquile if I was a boy, cause of the Basketball player. ICK. My mother would’ve never allowed it anyways.
When she thought I would be a boy I would have been Named after my Gpa and named [name]Marion[/name] [name]Oscar[/name] or something inspired by that.
As a girl this was her list:
Lexington [name]Jane[/name](it ended up not feeling right to my mom)
[name]Morgana[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
With [name]Morgana[/name] [name]Faye[/name] my family made fun of it relentlessly and couldn’t believe my mom would name me after a witch, and promised to make fun of my name every chance they could.asinine people.
So now I am [name]Taylor[/name] [name]Morgan[/name].
