[name_m]Just[/name_m] to add, my friend was almost a [name_f]Serendipity[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]! She’s an [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], which I think is slightly different!
The other names on my parents’ girl name shortlist were:
- Betsy
- Peggy
- Bess
- Dottie
- Elsie
- Nell
- Hetty
I was almost Peggy, until one of my older brothers said it reminded him of piggy, and my mum immediately ruled it out after that comment.
The boy list is quite short, because parents found out they were expecting a girl, so stopped adding to the boy list after that:
- Kitto
- Jago
- Arlo
- Wilf
They say I’d probably have been Kitto if I had been a boy.
I was almost [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] (double first, no middle)! They also had [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] on the list. If I was a boy, I would have been [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]!
[name_f]Crystal[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f]After [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] [name_m]Palace[/name_m] Football Club my dad is a huge fan, life long supporter and is a major part of his life. Anyways mum said that if [name_m]Palace[/name_m] had a good season they would use [name_f]Crystal[/name_f]. They didn’t so I was [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] after the Train Station my dad is a secret train spotter/general nerd and for some reason he loves [name_m]London[/name_m] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] Station.
I ended up with my name [name_m]Bryan[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m] which is my dad’s name in reverse. However, going into my birth I was almost [name_f]Skylar[/name_f] [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. [name_f]Skylar[/name_f] was a name they liked, and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] is a family name, and this kept my dad’s initials S.B. To this day there are various stories as to how this was switched last minute, so I don’t really know the reason.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] girl name I’m told was going to be [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (like every other girl born in 1995 lol), but my baby book says they also considered [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryana[/name_f].
[name_f]My[/name_f] nearly name was [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]. But my mum decided it was too short with our one syllable surname. [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is a favourite name of mine now. If I had been a boy, I would have been called [name_m]David[/name_m], which my brother was 22 months later.
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
I would’ve been [name_m]Robert[/name_m] [name_m]Tyler[/name_m], called [name_m]Tyler[/name_m]. It ended up being my brother’s name.
[name_f][/name_f]I found out much later (in adulthood, when my kids’ names were already decided) that while my mom loved and chose my name, [name_m]Ashley[/name_m] [name_f]Lauren[/name_f], my dad would have suggested Annie… which has been my favorite name forever, and what we ended up naming my daughter.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] mom later wished she’d used a family name for my middle instead of just something that “sounded good”. She liked [name_m]Carden[/name_m], a family surname on her side.
I’m not sure if my parents had any first names other than H@nnah picked out for me, but my middle name was almost [name_f]Rowena[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] mum wanted [name_f]Rowena[/name_f] so my initials would be HRH [name_f][/name_f] [name_f]My[/name_f] dad didn’t like it, though, and they went with Marg@ret, which is both of my grandmothers’ name.
[name_f][/name_f]I would have been [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] if I was a boy, probably with one of my grandfathers names as a middle.
[name_f]My[/name_f] middle sister was almost Amber-Leigh, but someone my parents knew had a baby around the same time and named her [name_f]Amberly[/name_f], and she would have [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] if she was a boy.
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] mum and step-dad had a very hard time agreeing on a name for my youngest sister, and her first name was the only one they agreed on. If she was a boy she would have been [name_m]Christopher[/name_m].
I’m a twin, both girls. If we were boys we would have been Joseph and Santino. My almost name was Juliana
[name_f]My[/name_f] mom liked [name_f]Savannah[/name_f] (trendy then), but my dad insisted on [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] (trendy now )
I would have been [name_m]Barnabas[/name_m] if a boy, which they did use for my brother born next. It was also my dad’s choice. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom got to name some of the younger siblings, haha!
[name_m]Jackson[/name_m] if I had been a boy
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Dolores[/name_f], [name_f]Sierra[/name_f], [name_f]Melinda[/name_f], and Tilly/Matilda were other ideas
I was only ever [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] really, but the closest runners-up were [name_f]Maya[/name_f] (my dad’s fave), [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] (my mom’s two faves). Their happy compromise became my name. If I’d been a boy, my name would be [name_m]Asa[/name_m]!
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f] or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
I picked my own name but I tested some out before settling on Raimun. Can’t remember any of the others but the one that lasted the longest was [name_m]Charlie[/name_m]!
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]!
I feel like I can’t participate in this because my almost name was [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], (my name is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] Georgina) and my boys name was [name_m]Oscar[/name_m] (my brother’s name)
[name_f]My[/name_f] parents started out with two girl and two boy names. They used both their boy names: [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] and [name_m]Gabriel[/name_m], and got to use mine, [name_f]Julia[/name_f] (after my paternal grandmother). Their second pick for a girl was [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but only would have used it if they first had a [name_f]Julia[/name_f] because my mom wanted a “Jewel and a Gem.” I got a [name_m]Gabe[/name_m] instead.
[name_f]My[/name_f] mum had my name picked before my parents even met, my boy name was [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]My[/name_f] sisters’ boy names were [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and my youngest sister was [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] until she was a day old.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] if I was a boy! I think my parents decided on mine as soon as they found out I was a girl. C@na
