What were the names of the children bullied at your school?

Growing up, I remember my classmates teasing a boy named [name]Jack[/name]. They called him names like Jackoule and Jackass. There was also a girl named [name]Mirren[/name]. And then there was this poor little guy named [name]Boris[/name] Licshitz.

[name]Shane[/name] is the only one I can think of (there was almost no bullying in my school, which I guess is kinda weird)… he never washed his hair and it was really long. He was geeky but he was a nice person even if he was quite strange. People used to throw bits of paper into his hair from across the room, it was really mean.

[name]Booker[/name] -> Booger

He was a new student, no friends, sad story.

Actually, hardly anyone was teased for their names, which is a good thing, in that sense…

I was called “Shrimp” in elementary school, but that had nothing to do with my name…

There was an [name]Eden[/name] who was called “Elf”, since her middle name started with L and her last name started with F.

I remember a [name]Cody[/name] and a [name]Clarence[/name] getting teased in elementary. I couldn’t tell you what people called them, just that it happened. Yeah, bullying is not good!

The only names I’ve ever heard bullies making fun of were last names, like Szkotak and Bacigalupo. There was a boy named [name]Sasha[/name] from Eastern Europe - he got teased a little until the teacher explained that [name]Sasha[/name] is a boy’s name in that part of the world. Then it seemed like everyone got used to it and dropped it.

There was a girl with the last name Beovich. They called her fn Be a Witch.

[name]Boris[/name] and [name]Anika[/name] were the ones that got bullied in my class. The majority of kids who got bullied had common names like [name]Christian[/name] and [name]Greg[/name], so I think it has more to do with the children themselves. Of course names that are easily rhymed with bad words and silly syllables are a target for the O- So-Creative and sophisticated minds of the bully.

Honestly, I can’t remember anyone getting bullied for their name.

There’s a kid named [name]Seamus[/name] that gets picked on at my school. (He woulda gotten picked on with any name, though.) A substitute once called him “Sea-moose”. It stuck.

Bullying is a disgusting, unacceptable behavior and I don’t think it has much, if anything, to do with the names of the victims. Sure, we all want to make sure that the names we choose for our children don’t set them up for jokes, but bullies will find something to ridicule about ANY name. If anyone takes anything from this thread, I hope it’s to teach our children that bullying is NEVER acceptable.

There was a [name]Benjamin[/name] Fu*ker at my school. He was [name]German[/name]. It was supposed to be pronounced “Few-ker” but it wasn’t. :\

That being said…I think bullying is dispicable…and the problem lies solely with the bully.

I went to a lot of schools. There was a [name]Bobby[/name], a [name]Holly[/name], a [name]Gioia[/name], a [name]Riley[/name]…

Umm…I’m 14, so the kids bullied at my school would be very different from the adults on here.

Mostly, I think kids are bullied less because of their names and more about how they act, but I suppose there may be a small correlation.

Girls: (That I remember)
[name]Katelyn[/name]
[name]Beatriz[/name]
[name]Angela[/name]
Ligaya (thats leh-[name]GUY[/name]-yah)
[name]Robin[/name]

Boys:
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Cody[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name] (he only goes by his last name though)
[name]Tomas[/name]
[name]Justin[/name]

That’s all I can think of for now…

I hope I misunderstood what you just wrote. Are you saying bullying happens because of how the bully acts, or the how the victim acts?

I don’t think in most cases kids were bullied because of their names. I had one kid tease me and call me Step on my knee or Step on me instead of [name]Stephanie[/name]. It didn’t last long though. There was also one kid who instead of saying [name]Smitty[/name] would change the M to an H. I wouldn’t say it was bullying though.

I would agree with some of the others, I don’t think people are generally picked on b/c of their names, but rather some vulnerability others view as a weakness.

[name]Justin[/name]
[name]Jodi[/name]

(I think Step-on-my-knee dude had a crush on you [name]Stephanie[/name]!)

Great post, interesting that there are few kids who seem to get mercilessly bullied becuase of their names, even though it’s such a big fear for so many parents. I remember a boy trying to get Penelo-plop started at school. It never took off. But I did get teased about having to wear a bra & getting my period in grade 6 - I think I would have preferred Penelo-plop.

We had a whole heap of teachers with unfortunate surnames - Mr Fluck, Mr [name]Dick[/name], Ms Lade, Ms Hore, Mr Lickass(!!) - and I remember we were pretty cruel. But I don’t remember any kid getting targeted through their name.

Someone told my daughter they didn’t like her name on the first day of school (and my heart cracked in two), and [name]Frederique[/name] said quite sagely, '[name]Don[/name]‘t worry, I think she’s just mean.’ It didn’t last anyway, it’s a small school and everyone likes her and her name now.

We live in a green belt on the fringes of a city and there’s boys called [name]Moss[/name] and [name]Raphael[/name] and [name]Sage[/name] as well as more boysie names like [name]Wade[/name], [name]Cooper[/name], and lots of Zacks. I can’t really imagine any name being an issue here.

I think the kids at my school who got teased about their names would have been bullied anyway. If kids think another child is smelly or ugly or whatever then their name becomes a derogatory term no matter what it is.
