What Were Your Earliest Signs of Pregnancy?

[name]Ive[/name] heard so many different answers! I am anxiously waiting to test and curious as to what everybodys first telltale pregnancy sign was, before their missed period? Right now I am experiencing these things…

Severe nausea
Trouble sleeping
Fatigue
Metallic taste in mouth
Excessive saliva
Aversions to smells and foods

What about you?

My periods were really infrequent, so it being 6 weeks since my last period was not something I even noticed. I first started having nausea/vomiting, but with chronic migraines, I assumed I was getting one of those. It wasn’t until a couple days later when I was still nauseous and the migraine hadn’t come on that I started to get suspicious. My breasts were also really sore, but that was typical leading up to a period for me, so I figured I was getting one, albeit early for me. I did experience severe fatigue, but it didn’t really pass the level of slightly more tired than usual until after I’d confirmed the pregnancy.

The fact that I was only getting my period every 2-3 months was related to a fertility issue and I had reasonable explanations for my symptoms that seemed a lot more likely than a pregnancy. I’m really kind of surprised it occurred to me to take a test as soon as it did. [name]Even[/name] then, the home test was a faint enough positive that I wasn’t really sure until I had it professionally confirmed.

Aversion to cigarettes & a heightened sense of smell in general.

That was the only stuff that changed before I even knew I was pregnant.

Unbelievable, inexplicable fatigue.

I finished a brutal 40+ hour call shift in the ICU (crazy night, included opening someone’s chest in the CT scanner to massage the heart!). Normally I would sleep 5-6 hours, get up and have an evening, then go to bed at a reasonable time to be ready for work the next AM.

Instead I slept 16 hours and woke up nauseated. [name]Both[/name] extremely, extremely unusual. Took a test that AM-- positive.

I then developed this unbelievable sense of smell. I was like a bloodhound. And the smells weren’t revolting, just stronger. I remember one time walking by the nurses’ station at least 30 feet away from the isolation room one of my patients was in. I sniffed and said “that patient has a wound infection!” He was covered in bandages. His nurse assured me that he was fine. I requested her to remove the dressings-- voila-- wound infection!

I kindof missed that superpower; it only lasted a few weeks.

Mind numbing fatigue and aversion to various smells like popcorn or meat. Horrible nausea then followed.

Mostly the fatigue, I’d never been so utterly tired in my life.

Fatigue
Always feeling thirsty
Sore breasts

@blade, I’ve got the super-smell going on now. I can tell when someone has been at a gas station earlier in the day. It’s not fun for nausea, but agree its kind of cool overall.

I just found out I’m pregnant yesterday and so far the only symptoms I’ve had are slight breast tenderness and cramping, which is pretty much what I remember from last time.

I was dizzy, lightheaded, tired, confused and I couldn’t think straight. I was making dinner and I just couldn’t follow a simple recipe I’d made several times before. I couldn’t think linearly. So I sent out the husband to pick up a test and that explained that!

I mistook the signs for depression and migraine for a long time. But the signs were fatigue, aversion to food and nausea. My pregnancy was not planned, so it was far from my mind that I could be pregnant.

The only symptom I had before my missed period was sore boobs. It only lasted a couple days.

For me, I was so tired a few days before AF and during the days it was suppose to be happening and a few days after before I tested. I didn’t feel sick right away, that came a bit later, and my breasts were super sore (like they hurt so bad just from being brushed against by my bra) a few days before AF. That was it for me.

The sickness started something like a week after AF, and the trouble sleeping a little later. The sickness is mostly gone, but sometimes I still have trouble sleeping. The aversion to food smells happened right there with the sickness.

Horrible vomiting and migraines!
Unfortunately the vomiting lasted my whole pregnancy both times :frowning:

I had migraines regularly, but I was down to only about 3 a month. I haven’t had a single one since I found out I was pregnant. It’s interesting that what was a symptom for someone else was alleviated for me. Because I was pretty used to frequent vomiting and considered myself to have a weak stomach, and because my morning sickness was so intense early on, I expected it to last a lot longer than it did. I was so fortunate that it let up when it did, because it was about a week before moving across state lines and I spent 24 hours driving over the course of 3 days.

I’ve had a very similar experience. I was typically getting about 1 migraine per month prior to pregnancy, but I’m currently 34 weeks along and haven’t had one for months and months now. I’m really hoping that the headaches don’t reappear as soon as I’ve given birth.

To answer the original poster’s question, though…my first symptoms of pregnancy: basically none.

The whole thing was unanticipated, and I didn’t realize until I was 6 or 7 weeks along or something like that. Up to that point, I seriously had no symptoms at all (and also mistook implantation bleeding for a light period). Around 6 or 7 weeks I started having slight nausea, but it really wasn’t that remarkable/bad.

I was incredibly thirsty and couldn’t be satisfied. Also, my breasts hurt.

So tired and I’m only 4 weeks, I sit down and I’m half asleep lol I hope this goes away but at least I’m not having morning sickness

I don’t know yet for sure if I’m pregnant. I got a negative four days ago. I’m waiting until tomorrow morning to test. I will be 7 days late tomorrow.

Anyway, right now I’m not having any of the cramps and sore boobs associated with AF for me normally. My chief complaints are unusual for me: major gas, restless legs/insomnia at night, EXTREME fatigue during the day, and what I call queasiness, usually right after I eat. It’s not really quite nausea but borderline. Also yesterday I got a bad migraine but it was preceded by nausea, which is weird.

Why is a migraine preceded by nausea weird? Nausea was how I always knew a migraine was coming.

With our first, I found out because my period was late and I had severe headache and nausea. With our second, I thought I had my period, but it was really short and spotty, and I began to feel extremely fatigued, sore, and I had no appetite, the next day, I took a test and it was positive. With our third, my husband was watching TV, and I was making dinner and dealing with the kids so I was constantly walking in front of the TV. After about the tenth time my husband said, “[name]Babe[/name], do you think you’re pregnant,”. Yeah, it took him a while to explain that one! With our fourth I had just done a twin c-section, and was getting some water from the break room when all of a sudden my back and lower abdomen started cramping badly and my vision got blurry. I had been sore and a little tired all day, but just likened it to the fact that I had been working so much lately. I retrieved a pregnancy test from my office (OB-GYN) and took it right there at the hospital. [name]Viola[/name], baby number 4!

@kungfualex – Not everyone has nausea with migraines. There’s 2 different types of migraines. The type that’s just sensitivity to light and sound and extreme pain, and the other kind, Migraines with aura (which is what I have) which can have vision changes (black spots etc), dizziness, nausea, etc. So she probably just had never had a migraine that included nausea before.
