[name]Hi[/name] y’all! We have decided not to find out the gender of this baby, so we need a few names for both genders. I plan to do a post with our list soon, but right now I’m looking for suggestions to add to the list.
First, a few reasons I love the name [name]Everett[/name]:
Easy to pronounce
Recognizable, but not too common (I think it was around 300 when we chose it)
Masculine
Soft sounds to go with our hard last name (sounds like Cockran)
Respectable, but still friendly and easy going
We get great reactions from all sorts of people because they had a grandfather or other beloved relative with that name.
Good meaning
I would like a name with some of these same qualities. I’m from [name]Texas[/name], and I like names that are maybe somewhat western and friendly sounding. Names that you would picture on a rough and tumble outdoor kinda boy. Rugged, dependable, etc. I also love nature inspired names, but my husband is a bit picky on that front. He loves nature, he just wants our boy to have a masculine and bully-proof name. I’m wearing him down some though, especially when it comes to middle names
Here are a few names that come up a lot that we don’t like. (they are ok, just not our style)
[name]Emmett[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
And no mythology names. I’m not opposed to them, but I feel strange using them because we are [name]Christian[/name].
There are more of course, these are just some berry favorites that I thought I’d eliminate right at the beginning
Thank you in advance for any suggestions! We are so lost on boy names.
Thanks ladies! @litysmama- [name]Levi[/name] is one of the names on our list. It is one of my husband’s favorites. (I really like it too, I just knew a really strange guy with that name, and the association is hard to break [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Elias[/name], [name]Silas[/name], and [name]Quinn[/name] have all been on our list in the past too. We took [name]Quinn[/name] off because of the rising popularity for girls (though I’m still not sure how much that bothers me), and [name]Elijah[/name] and [name]Elias[/name] got removed by my husband because he has had a lot of students with those names. Though he does keep suggesting [name]Eli[/name]. [name]Rafferty[/name] and [name]Quincy[/name] are really fun. I may have to consider them. Thanks! @alzora- It’s so funny that you mentioned [name]Jesse[/name] because my great grandfather’s name was [name]Jesse[/name], and I’ve been going back and forth on it for a while. And [name]Raymond[/name] is my dad’s middle name I also really like [name]Weston[/name], [name]Elan[/name], and [name]Heath[/name] from your list. I like a lot of the other names too, they have just already been eliminated for various reasons. Thanks!
Quick question: What do y’all think about names that end in -an or -on with our last name? For instance, is [name]Weston[/name] Cockran difficult to say? I can’t decide if it works or not. I like a lot of boy names that end in n, but I get a little tongue tied with some.
Here are some more ideas.
[name]Tate[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Chace[/name]
[name]Archer[/name]
[name]Brant[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Royce[/name]
[name]Clay[/name]
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
@bethlow- I really like [name]Merritt[/name], [name]Fletcher[/name], and [name]Flynn[/name]. [name]Dalton[/name] and [name]Ridley[/name] are fun too. We have [name]Harris[/name] on our list also. [name]Walker[/name] would be great because it’s a family name, but I still sing the [name]Walker[/name], [name]Texas[/name] [name]Ranger[/name] theme song every time I hear it Thank you for the suggestions!
@lis09- I like [name]Eamon[/name], [name]Archer[/name], [name]Royce[/name], and [name]Clay[/name]. I’ll have to consider those for a while. [name]Graham[/name] would be a good fit, but I used to live in a little town named [name]Graham[/name], so I have a hard time seeing it on a kid Thank you!
Honestly, my first thought was something I know you’ve considered before, only because we’ve discussed this before. I know [name]Caleb[/name] isn’t usable to you anymore, but I just think [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name] are perfect for brothers!
I think something along the line of these would be lovely with a little [name]Everett[/name]:
Something surnamey/literary/Biblical. Although I probably think that because I adore [name]Everett[/name] so, and so therefore I just think of my own list.
@ashthedreamer- You are so right! [name]Caleb[/name] would be perfect Oh well, I guess it gives me more excuses to look at baby names right I really like [name]Sullivan[/name], [name]Asher[/name], and strangely enough [name]Charles[/name]. It’s not usually my style, but I guess I enjoyed the show [name]Chuck[/name] a bit too much. I have considered [name]Sullivan[/name] before, but I wonder if it is too surnamey?? I don’t mind surnames much, but I do like them to have some history of use for first names also. I knew a man with a surname name, and I never could figure out which was his first name and which was his last. [name]Sullivan[/name] has some potential though. Thanks!
I have to echo the suggestion of [name]Flynn[/name] - it’s fantastic, and sounds great with [name]Everett[/name]! Other ideas:
[name]Rowan[/name] (still tips in favor of the boys, which is pretty rare for a unisex name! dunno if that makes it masculine enough, though)
[name]Claude[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Tobin[/name] or [name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Lane[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Roscoe[/name]
[name]Griffith[/name] or [name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Finnegan[/name] / [name]Finnigan[/name] or [name]Finley[/name] / [name]Finlay[/name]
[name]Tiernan[/name]
[name]Duncan[/name]
[name]Shepherd[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
@egilona- Yay for another vote for [name]Flynn[/name] It’s on my list, and I really love it, but DH isn’t quite convinced. I really like [name]August[/name], [name]Tobin[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name], [name]Duncan[/name], [name]Shepherd[/name], and [name]Gideon[/name] too. I like [name]Callum[/name], but my son’s middle name is [name]Callan[/name], so I feel like they’re too similar, kwim? Great list though! A lot of these are already on my list. Thanks!
@sdsurfmama- I love [name]Cormac[/name] and [name]Merrick[/name], but since my last name starts with the hard C sound, names that end in that tend to clash. It’s a pity cause there are a lot of names that end in c or k that I really like. I like [name]Garrett[/name] from your list too. Thanks!
I don’t think [name]Weston[/name] Cockran is difficult to say–maybe if your last name ended in -ton. My last name ends in -on and I definitely have some names ending in -on on my list
Thanks litysmama and cannebella! [name]Weston[/name] is growing on me some. I really love [name]Wes[/name], but I’m not sure about [name]Weston[/name] or [name]Wesley[/name]. I’ll have to mull it over for a while
Thanks tropicalmomma! I like [name]Jacob[/name], but it’s popularity puts me off a bit. [name]Edgar[/name] is a funny suggestion for me because I used to work at a wildlife rehab center and we had a particularly mean raven named [name]Edgar[/name]. I can’t tell you how many times he drew blood or bruised me in some way. Luckily the other raven liked me and would fight [name]Edgar[/name] off whenever he started attacking, but not until after I was bleeding a bit So that name has a bit of history for me. Thanks!
It’s funny, because before I even read any responses to your original post, one name popped into my mind immediately. [name]Flynn[/name]. Then I read to see many people make this suggestion. I think that’d be a great choice to go along with [name]Everett[/name]. [name]Everett[/name] is an excellent name, a tough one to find a name of equal caliber and quality.
But here’s a few others I think you may like (perhaps some repeats, I didn’t read all the responses):
[name]Conrad[/name] (!)- [name]Conrad[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] would be an awesome combination
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Roland[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Larkin[/name]
[name]Cadoc[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Darrell[/name]
[name]Destry[/name]
[name]Clayton[/name]
[name]Oren[/name]
[name]Raleigh[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Cyrus[/name]
[name]Calder[/name]
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Gareth[/name]
[name]Hershel[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
